We’re delighted to welcome our new friends at La Tosca Foods to The Big Umbrella family!
Rooted in the traditions of Italian food and family, La Tosca understands that great food is about so much more than what’s on the plate. It’s about quality ingredients, sharing meals, bringing people together and making everyone feel cared for.
A huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to the La Tosca team for generously supplying their delicious spinach and ricotta tortellini and outstanding Napoli sauce to help us create packaged meals for our EAT.ATM initiative!
These beautiful ingredients will help us prepare comforting, nutritious meals made with love, ready to be accessed through our free, 24/7 emergency food vending machines.
Because everyone deserves a good meal, a little dignity and a reminder that someone cares.

This is a HUGE milestone for The Big Umbrella Foundation & Eat.ATM and our mission to revolutionise food relief across Victoria!

We are incredibly proud to announce the Victorian Government’s support for our innovative EAT.ATM hot-food vending network, helping us take another major step towards making nutritious, delicious hot meals accessible to Victorians doing it tough.

Our Walker Corporation legends jumped right into the action, helping serve a delicious, nutritious buffet celebrating diverse cultures and catering to different dietary needs. But the giving didn’t stop at dinner! We also distributed fresh produce, pantry items, kitchen staples, clothing and other essential material aid to our friends on the street.

🚨 **A MINISTERIAL VISIT, A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT & A BIG STEP FOR EAT.ATM!

Today was a very special day at The Big Umbrella Foundation as we welcomed the Hon. Luba Grigorovitch MP, Victorian Minister for Youth and Minister for Carers and Volunteers, to our Brunswick Emergency Food Relief Centre! 💙

And what a fantastic announcement she brought with her!

We’re absolutely thrilled to share that The Victorian Government has awarded TBU $100,000 through its Community Food Security Program to purchase a brand-new refrigerated truck to support the expansion of our revolutionary EAT.ATM food relief network!** 🚛🍲

This investment will help us safely transport thousands of nutritious, chef-prepared meals to **EAT.ATM**, bringing us closer to our vision of making hot, nutritious meals accessible to people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity, whenever they need them.

For us, this is about so much more than a new truck. It’s about building the infrastructure to deliver food relief differently — reaching more people, in more locations, with dignity, choice and compassion.

A huge thank you to Minister Luba Grigorovitch and the Victorian Government for recognising the potential of EAT.ATM and investing in a smarter, more accessible future for food relief.

In a world where we produce enough food to feed everyone, no one should be going hungry.

Yet every day, right here in Melbourne, thousands of people struggle to put a nutritious meal on the table.

At The Big Umbrella Foundation, we believe food is more than just nourishment. It’s dignity. It’s connection. It’s community. And above all, it’s a basic human right, not a privilege.

For over 16 years, we’ve been turning rescued food into hope, serving more than 563,000 meals and saving over 1 MILLION kilograms of perfectly good food from landfill.

From our Feed Melbourne street restaurant at Federation Square to our Emergency Food Relief Centre in Brunswick, and now our revolutionary EAT.ATM network, we’re finding new ways to make nutritious meals accessible to people experiencing food insecurity — whenever and wherever they’re needed.

But World Food Day isn’t just about celebrating what we’ve achieved.

It’s about recognising how much more there is to do.

Because behind every meal is a person. A story. A life. And someone who deserves to be treated with kindness, respect and dignity.

❤️ A VERY SPECIAL VISITOR RETURNED TO HER TBU FAMILY! ❤️

Yesterday, we had the absolute joy of welcoming back someone very special to The Big Umbrella — our much-loved Peggy! 🥰

Of course, we couldn’t let Peggy visit without giving her the recognition she deserves — so we proudly presented her with her very own HONORARY TBU TEAM LEADER VEST! 🦺👏

And if you look closely at the photo, you’ll see something else very special — all of Peggy’s beautiful flowers, lovingly planted and raised in our/ her garden, which we’re lucky enough to call ours too. 🌸🌷

Just like Peggy, they’ve brought so much colour, warmth and beauty to our little corner of the world. A beautiful reminder that the things we plant with love continue to grow.

Because once you’re part of the TBU family, you’re family for life.

Peggy, you’ve left your mark on our hearts, our garden and our community. No amount of time away will ever change that.
