For many years the profession of youth work did not have an association that represented youth practitioners as its core business. This was identified by the sector as a major gap in recognizing the distinct professional knowledge, skills, and specific expertise of Youth Workers. In Victoria and in other states of Australia Youth Workers have been organizing and discussing the necessity of having

a distinct youth work association, and because of this hard work, Youth Workers Australia is now in existence.
