Big congratulations to our new IRB crew, who took on there crew assessments this weekend!

All the training, teamwork and early mornings has paid off, with our crews now ready to hit the water and keep our beaches safe this summer.

Congratulations to Brunswick SLSC patrol captain Simon Ceglinski for being named NSW Surf Life Saving Officer of the Year at the 12th annual Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards (RESCA) last night.

Awarded during a ceremony at Bankstown Sports Club, the honour was in recognition Simon’s longtime service and commitment to surf life saving and ongoing efforts to show that our diversity is what makes us stronger, as national lead for Lifesavers with Pride’s Rainbow Beaches initiative.

Simon first joined Bruns as a Nipper more than 40 years ago. Since then, he’s been an active patrolling member, trainer, IRB driver, vice club captain, and emergency callout team member. During the 2022 floods, he was part of Bruns SLSC’s responder team, evacuating residents from South Golden Beach and New Brighton, and coordinating our branch members to assist with the evacuation centres in Lismore.

Well done Simon and congratulations to all finalists in the awards, including fellow Far North Coast branch member Daniela Berti Carrabs from Byron Bay Surf Life Saving Club.

Brunswick SLSC annual awards night is a chance to celebrate the outstanding achievements, dedication and service of our members throughout the season we look forward to recognising those who kept our beaches safe and made our club such a strong community.

At the Far North Coast awards night Craig Ried was awarded Patrol Captain of the year, and Matilda Langtry was awarded Youth Volunteer of the year. Both Craig and Matilda will be representing FNC at the upcoming state awards.

We also congratulate Meg Quinn on being awarded life membership for her 38 years of dedicated service to Brunswick SLSC.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events at Ballina involving Marine Rescue NSW.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the families, friends, and all those affected by this devastating loss. We also extend our support to the brave volunteers and first responders who dedicate their time to keeping our community safe, often in incredibly challenging circumstances.

The ocean can be unpredictable, and moments like this remind us of the risks faced by those who serve on the water. We stand together as a community in grief and in gratitude for their commitment.

Last Sunday, Bruns SLSC joined 170 surf clubs across Australia in Rainbow Beaches — an annual celebration reinforcing that everyone is welcome at the beach and in surf lifesaving.

Respect and diversity — across age, gender, race and religion — are what make our clubs stronger, more vibrant and truly representative of the communities we serve.
