You know what makes the Kimberley unforgettable – vast rivers, waterfalls, rafting.
But frackers and large-scale irrigators want to take its water.

Right now the Kimberley needs allies to speak up. The government is deciding whether the Martuwarra Fitzroy River remains one of the last free flowing rivers on Earth.

Have your say. Protect the Aussie icon you love.

Presenting Voices of the River Reels Episode 7: Being in connection, with Nyikina Custodian Wayne Bergmann.

Wayne shares his story of growing up fishing and hunting along the Martuwarra Fitzroy River, and how the river was a fundamental part of his identity and healing 🧡

He reflects on how the cost-benefit of water-intensive industry on the river is not justifiable, as it is only the wealthy who stand to benefit.

🌿 SKIPA Native Gardens Open Day!

SKIPA is hosting a Native Gardens Open Day in late July, a celebration of Kimberley native plants!

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this is your chance to discover how native plants can transform your garden and the local environment.

On the day you can explore:
- Soil health and water conservation techniques
- Rainwater harvesting and composting tips
- How to attract pollinators and create wildlife habitat
- Easy, sustainable gardening practices you can start at home

Why native plants?
Kimberley native species are adapted to our local conditions. They require less water and maintenance and provide more habitat for the birds, insects and wildlife that call this region home. Native gardens also play a vital role in building climate resilience and absorbing carbon right here in our community.

Want to get involved?
We're looking for volunteers to help with the event, get in touch: [email protected]

Stay tuned for the confirmed date and more details!

We were honoured to be at the National Reconciliation Week opening event in Boorloo/Perth this morning. It takes place every year from May 27 to June 3.

Congratulations to Reconciliation Australia WA Co-chairs Nolan Hunter and Debra Zanella and their team for this event.

The theme is ‘All In’, a call for everyone to reflect on our shared history and actively commit and contribute to reconciliation every day. Progress isn't passive or the sole burden of First Nations people, it requires all of us to take action.

Powerful talks by people like June Oscar, Richard Walley and Narelda Jacobs were incredibly inspiring. The importance of Country, tackling racism, threats to Country like industrial water extraction in the Martuwarra Fitzroy River catchment, proposed fracking in the Kimberley, Jarrah forest mining and rock art damage at Murujuga were all eloquently spoken about.

Truth telling is a vital part of reconciliation and we strongly encourage WA’s Cook Labor government to support this.

The Premier Roger Cook, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Water Don Punch MLA were in attendance, we hope they listened deeply and will support truth telling and protect Country from threats.

It was an honour to attend as an ally and we will continue on the journey for environmental justice with First Nations people in the Kimberley.
