Nagula Jarndu - Saltwater Woman

Nagula Jarndu - Saltwater Woman Based in Broome, Nagula Jarndu runs art activities for Aboriginal women from our art centre on the corner of Gregory St and Pembroke Rd.

The Yawuru people are the traditional owners of the country in and around Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Nagula Jarndu means Saltwater Woman in Yawuru language. Nagula Jarndu is a women's art centre in Broome with a focus on producing contemporary and unique textile lengths and textile products. While many of the artists who work with Nagula Jarndu are Yawuru women, all abori

ginal women are welcome to learn new skills, share their culture and language through the medium of art which gives great diversity to the textiles.

Are you ready to feast your senses? ❤️💛🖤

Country to Couture returns to Larrakia Country this August, expanding to two nights of First Nations fashion, storytelling and creativity across 21 collections from community art centres, designers and artists.

Now in its 11th year, Country to Couture has become one of the most important events on Australia’s fashion calendar: part runway, part cultural recognition, and a celebration of fashion’s power to carry story, memory, place and pride. We here at Peppermint are extremely proud to support this incredible event again this year as the Premium Media Partner.

Presented by alongside the , this year’s Country to Couture will unfold across two nights for the first time ever, taking place on 2nd and 3rd August on Larrakia Country in Garamilla/Darwin, at Charles Darwin University’s new Danala precinct.

Country to Couture has always carried a sense of atmosphere that stretches beyond fashion alone. Each garment carries the stories of the landscape they emerged from, the artists and communities behind every print, weave, silhouette and technique. As Indigenous Fashion Projects describes it, the event is “a contemporary way of cultural storytelling” that celebrates the growing textile and fashion movement within First Nations communities across Australia.
