What keeps you happy, healthy and strong?

We put that question to the kids at the Shinju Junior Basketball Tournament this week and handed them a texta.

Their answers were simple.

Mum and Dad. Basketball. Fruit and veggies. Water. Sleep. Morning walks.

No complicated wellness plans. No life hacks. Just the stuff that helps them feel good.

Maybe the kids have it sorted and the rest of us just need the reminder.

Our Mental Health team spent Tuesday and Wednesday alongside the Binar Health Embassy at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre, having a yarn with families and collecting answers from young people about what helps them stay happy, healthy and strong.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by, and to for having us.

That’s how many times last year someone in the Kimberley sat down with our mental health team.

Behind every number was a person who picked up the phone, walked through the door, or said yes when someone reached out.

And on the other side of that conversation was one of our staff members, ready to listen, support and walk alongside them.

That’s 2,289 moments of connection.

It’s Mental Health Week in WA, and we’re using it to say something we probably don’t say enough:

We’re proud of this team.

Happy belated birthday, Aimee. We're grateful to have you living, working and adventuring with us on Miriwoong Country.

P.S. Why is Aimee a drawing? Because on her birthday she did something pretty radical. She put her phone away. No selfies, no endless photos, just a day spent soaking up everything Kununurra has to offer. Luckily, the landscape was still happy to pose for us.

When you work in regional health, you quickly learn that good care isn't just about what happens inside one service.

It’s about knowing who else is out there.

The people who know the community.
The people who understand the health system.
The people working with families.
The people who can say:

“Have you spoken to them yet?”

We recently sat down with the NeuroKids Kimberley outreach team during their visit to the region.

We talked, connected, shared contacts and compared notes about the people and services supporting children and families across the Kimberley.

No grand speeches.
No magic wand.

Just people who care about the same things, getting in the same room.
Because it takes a village. And sometimes, the village needs a group chat.
