That's a wrap for this round of seagrass monitoring! Thank you to every volunteer who joined us on the mud to contribute to this vital long term monitoring project.
Living amongst the beautiful meadows of Halodule and Halophila seagrasses... we find many other intertidal delights. Here's a few of our recent finds. One of the reasons we love seagrass is that the meadows enhance biodiversity, meaning they provide habitat and nutrients for many different species to call this place home.
🐚 Spot the long eye stalk of the stromb shell which which gives this snail 360 degree vision
🪼Stinging tentacles of the tube anemone (Cerianthus sp) are used to capture small prey
💄Baler shell (Melo amphora) with beautiful decoration
☀️ Radiant colours of the beaded anemone (Heteractis aurora)
🐍Black ringed mangrove snake hunting for small fish and mudskippers (Hydrelaps darwiniensis)
⭐️Feather stars (Crinoids) use their arms to capture plankton from passing currents
We have more community events coming up soon. Keep an eye out on our socials and get in touch if you would like to join the project!
