Did you know around 1 in 4 Australians say they would like to leave a gift to charity in their will, yet only about 1 in 13 actually do?

This Include a Charity Week, we want to help close that gap, because a gift in your will costs nothing today but can change everything for a young person tomorrow.

A bequest to Burdekin is the gift of a future. It can fund safe housing, a trusted person beside a young person, and the chance to build a life of their own, long after any of us are here to see it.

It does not need to be a large amount. Every gift, whatever its size, becomes part of the safety net for the next generation of young people who need us.

You can write or update your will for free online and include a gift to Burdekin at the same time if you choose to.

If you have ever thought about leaving a legacy, this week is a good time to take the first step. Reach out to our team for a confidential conversation, no pressure, just a chat about the future you want to help build. πŸ’™ Leave a legacy: https://burdekin.org.au/leave-a-bequest-charitable-gift/

πŸ’œ Pride in Purple! πŸ’œ

This morning, Burdekin was proud to attend Twenty10’s Wear It Purple Day celebration at Pride Square, Newtown. 🌈

It was wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate, support and uplift LGBTQIA+ young people.

From colourful face painting and cupcakes to meaningful conversations and connections, the event was a powerful reminder of the importance of creating spaces where young people feel safe, valued, included and free to be themselves.

At Burdekin, we believe every young person deserves to feel a sense of belonging and know that they are accepted for who they are.

A big thank you to Twenty10 for hosting such a welcoming and inclusive event.

Happy Wear It Purple Day! πŸŒˆπŸ’œ

Since 1987, Burdekin has walked alongside children, young people and families across Sydney who are facing vulnerability and instability. We believe circumstances should never determine a young person's future, and every day our team works to make that true.

In 2025 alone, we reached over 500 additional young people through outreach and community programs, provided safe accommodation and care for 125 children and young people every night, and helped 75% of children in our care re-engage with education. Most importantly, 80% of young people who leave Burdekin remain in stable housing a year later.

Thank you to everyone who makes this possible, our staff, our carers, our partners and our donors. πŸ’™ https://burdekin.org.au/partner-with-us/

A big thank you to the Property Industry Foundation and MPA for inviting Burdekin to speak at last Friday’s Impact Afternoon Tea for Youth Homelessness. πŸ’™

Our CEO, Justene Gordon, joined PIF CEO Kate Mills to explore the theme β€œFrom Support to Impact”, sharing how funding, volunteering and strong community partnerships translate into more housing, wraparound support and brighter futures for young people at risk of homelessness.

The afternoon was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the power of collective action and the important role partnerships play in helping young people move from homelessness towards safe, stable and independent futures.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to the PIF and MPA teams for bringing the sector together around a shared commitment to helping young people thrive.

A huge thank you to the teams at Property Industry Foundation and Plenary Group for their incredible work last Thursday, helping to create a more welcoming and homely environment for our young people.

The new gazebo and expanded outdoor paved area have transformed our home, providing a comfortable space for connection, relaxation and everyday activities.

These enhancements will be enjoyed by both young people and staff for years to come.

We are deeply grateful for your generosity, commitment and ongoing support. Partnerships like this make a lasting difference, helping us create spaces where young people feel safe, supported and empowered to thrive.

πŸ’™ Thank you for helping make our house feel even more like home.

Jenny has three TAFE qualifications now: real estate, auctioneering and cooking. She's working towards becoming a professional auctioneer, and hopes to work on yachts one day too.

But ask her what matters most, and she'll tell you it's this:

"My mental health has improved so much. I'm not scrambling anymore. My nervous system is finally regulated, and I've been able to get my health back on track."

To any young person who needs support, Jenny has one message.
"Reach out. Services like Burdekin can honestly change your life."

This is what your support makes possible.
