During National Reconciliation Week, and in the week of National Sorry Day, we were grateful for the opportunity to come together, reflect, and connect.

We shared a special evening at the Burdekin NRW BBQ, hosted in partnership with Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation. Our staff and young people had the privilege of meeting Uncles, listening to stories, and celebrating culture together in a space grounded in connection, respect and learning.

It was a meaningful opportunity to deepen our understanding and acknowledge the history and ongoing impact of the Stolen Generations.

Thank you to KBH for your generosity in hosting us and for creating such a welcoming and powerful space. It was a truly special evening, and one we won’t forget.

We were also honoured to attend the opening of the Coolamon Arts Hub’s inaugural exhibition. It was both powerful and deeply moving, offering a thoughtful reflection on truth-telling and resilience. 🖤💛❤️

Big news for housing in Australia.

The Federal Government has announced changes to investor tax concessions, a step that advocates, frontline workers and community organisations have been calling for over many years.

At Burdekin, we see every day what happens when young people can't access safe, affordable housing. We welcome any reform that moves us closer to a system that works for everyone.

But we also know the work isn't done. More social housing, properly funded services, and long-term commitment from all levels of government are still urgently needed.
We'll keep showing up for the young people who need it most, and standing alongside the sector as we push for the change they deserve.

The federal government’s historic step forward on winding back investor tax breaks marks a turning point for housing fairness and affordability but it must be […]

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. Reconciliation Australia

This year’s theme, “All In,” is a reminder that reconciliation is a shared responsibility, one that requires all of us to listen, learn, and take meaningful steps forward.

At Burdekin, we are committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and connected. We recognise and value the strength, resilience, culture and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the importance of continuing to learn and listen.

We encourage everyone to get involved in activities within their local communities, and to take time to reflect on the role we each play in reconciliation.

Reconciliation is not a moment, it’s an ongoing journey we walk together.

As the end of the financial year approaches, it’s a time many of us think about how we can make a difference.

At Burdekin, your support helps young people experiencing homelessness find safety, stability and a brighter future. Every contribution plays a role in helping a young person feel seen, supported, and able to move forward.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing simple ways you can get involved and make a meaningful impact.

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home.

Homelessness Nsw is calling on the NSW Government to increase funding for specialist homelessness services by 50% and invest further in social housing through the A Place to Call Home campaign.

At Burdekin, we see every day how vital housing support services are for young people in our communities.

📢 You can help advocate for change by contacting your local state representative.

Learn more about the campaign here:

With suitable and affordable social housing and properly funded specialist services, we can make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.
