How do you become powerful and free?

The Path of Power is a Sacred Path. If you are coming along this path, you are looking to find your balance. When you come into the world, you come out of your mother's womb. So we're all equal on one level of it. We all got onto the planet. That's our passport. You shouldn't ever need any more passport than that to go around the world. But we have all these funny boundaries because people think they own land.
But when you come onto the planet, it's a process of growth. When you don't know anything, you're afraid of everything. You have a lot of fears. You come through life and you're always afraid of this or that. You're afraid somebody or something is going to get you or take advantage of you or whatever. You battle with that, with your fears. Then if you really start reaching out and somebody is willing to share knowledge, and you start taking it in, then you start moving into your Path of Power. There are a lot of things that come into this path for you. I want to share some things with you, because it's very important that you understand these things.
There's a lot of reasons why we humans go along the way we do most of the time in the world.
Many people are emotional cripples. They only move at 50 percent of what they should be doing. They are locked into these fear patterns. And there's a lot of other people that would just as soon keep them there. They like to keep you on a little string of fear because that means control.
That's basically what this whole system operates on, is control. There are a lot of ways of people taking power over your life and keeping you from becoming a whole human being.
Many times you give them this power, because you don't have the courage to be yourself and be your own person. It's much easier to give in to somebody else and let them do it for you.
There's a lot of people in this society and this world that have been doing things for you for a long time. A lot of them will tell you, like the politicians, Mr. Bush and all the rest, they'll tell you they've been doing these things for your own good.
My mother used to be telling me about all the things she would have done with her life. She would say, "I would have done this, but my dad wouldn't let me," or "I would have done this, but my husband wouldn't let me." All these people would have done something, but somebody wouldn't let them. They go through life this way.
And we have these little excuses as to why we don't do something about it. One of my brothers gave me a very good one on this. I asked him why he hadn't done something. He said, "Sun Bear, I could give you an excuse, but," he says, "excuses are like as****es - everybody's got 'em!"
If you want to move in a sacred way, the first thing is that you have to have enough courage to do some self-surgery on yourself. You have to do something very brave sometimes.
I've had to be brave sometimes. I've looked at things. There were some things that wouldn't work in dealing with the world as a whole. What I had to do was self-surgery. I had to remove all the old tapes and old conditionings that people put on me that told me what I couldn't do.
I did something very brave a long time back in my life. I took a look at the way this world was and I looked at the Native Americans and the world in general. Then I did something. I tore up both scripts. Both the white man's and the Indian's. And I threw them over my back. Then I wrote my own script.
My uncle said, "Remember this. Any fool can get a job, but it takes a smart person to live without one."
I bought my freedom from the system by learning how to create a job. I figured out how to make a living doing something I believe in. The people around me, that's why they're here. Because they share that same feeling. They want to do something that's creative and something to help heal the Earth and restore the balance, rather than being part of the destruction process.
Then you have all the little things - human conditioning - that keep you from your power. People ask me sometimes, "What are you afraid of in the world, Sun Bear?" I say, "I'm not afraid of all the atomic bombs in the world. The only thing I'm afraid of is human conditioning." Human conditioning locks people into little boxes of fear and keeps them there
The spiritual path, the sacred path, is taking power over your life. It's getting to where you take responsibility for your life. Look at all the things in your life that you have to take responsibility for.
When you're centered in on your path and you're ready to move in a sacred manner, then if you need some help or direction, that's when you can reach out for the spirits. The spirit powers we work with, that I work with, have been around for thousands of years. It's not Uncle Walter who left last week, 'cause Uncle Walter might not know any more than he did when he left.
These spirits come to you only when you're ready to accept them. That means you have to be moving in that direction.
Most people are not moving toward a sacred path. Most people just exist. They go from TV set to job. They just exist. They're like the little rat in the maze; they stick their little nose through the trap door and get their paycheck. They exist.
But if you're moving you have to start seeking things out for yourself. You start noticing there's something else out there. Then you start praying for knowledge. You start asking the spirits to give you more and open up things for you. You ask in the sacred manner. Then the spirit helpers come in. They're ready to work with you.
As you start moving along the sacred path, then you start looking for more knowledge. Once you start on this path, you can't get off it.
Wisdom is very important. Wisdom is learning to use knowledge in a sacred manner. You can have knowledge and words, but wisdom is the use of knowledge. When you're moving on this path, then you get into your power. Power is something you need to learn how to balance.
Power is a very dangerous tool. The more powerful you get, the more you need to watch to stay in balance with it. If you're in balance and know how to work wisely with power, there isn't anything in the world that won't come to you. This is the beginning of the sacred dance.
There are things that can hold you back - guilt. A useless emotion. It can take power from you. You don't need guilt in your life.
When you want to walk the sacred path, you need to be ready to acknowledge that you're here on the - planet and doing the best you can. Then beyond that you can say, "Spirit, I'm doing the best I can, so I deserve any help I can get."
There's a lot of conditioning that we have to break free from. A lot of the conditioning says, this is a vale of tears, this Earth. It's a place of suffering. When I shed my earthly envelope, that's when the good things will happen. It's like Creator made this place for a prison colony.
I don't believe the Earth Mother is a place to suffer. We're here to be happy. I think this is Creator's favourite television show. Remember, your first purpose on the planet is to be happy.
Learn about praying. When you make prayers, make them real. Pray for what you need right then and there. Exactly.
A lot of people have the funny idea about things, "Hey, I shouldn't really pray for anything I need personally." So they pray in broad scope - they pray for peace in the world and Saddam Hussein slaughters another 10,000 Kurds. They're praying in very vague terms for things.
Pray for specifics. Does this really work? I'm going to pray for what I need right now. I need a better job, Creator. I need somebody in my life that can make me happy, give me some love and some good energy. “Hey, Creator, this is what I need.....” Pray in a real way. Pray for rain for your crops. That's the way it works.
Some people think praying is a very vague thing. They think of spirits as some kind of fluffy thing riding around up there in the cloud not really very real. So when they pray they say, "Lord'...... God..... Anybody?" They go into the ‘poor me’ bit.
"Hey, God, maybe you could spare a few crumbs for me." If you're only going to pray for crumbs in your life, you're going to have a crummy life. Pray for real things.
If you're going to work with these powers, you have to have a total love for them. And a feeling of the energy. Then you become one with them."
