An extract from tonight's Hume City Council Meeting
Rate Arrears – Year Ended 30 June 2026

1. SUMMARY OF REPORT:
1.1 Rate arrears were $53.51 million at 30 June 2026, an increase of $7.76 million from $45.75 million at 30 June 2025.

1.2 Arrears represented 20.81% of rates raised, compared with 19.01% in 2024/25. The increase in arrears reflects a combination of ongoing cost-of-living pressures and continued growth in the municipality. Council will monitor payment timing to identify where earlier support may help.

1.3 There were 25,392 properties in arrears. Of these, 6,648 properties had active payment arrangements covering $18.86 million.

1.4 Council continues to support ratepayers experiencing financial difficulty through the Rates Financial Hardship Policy and realistic payment arrangements, while following up accounts that remain unpaid.
