Dasht-e-Barchi is bleeding again. đź’”

And once again, it is children who are left carrying the weight of violence they never asked for.

Behind every number is a child with a name, a family, a dream, and a future. A classroom should be a place where children learn, laugh, and imagine the lives they want to build — not a place where their safety becomes a question.

We cannot allow the suffering of children in Afghanistan, to become another headline that the world reads and forgets.

Their right to learn.

Unite for HER was proud to join the 2026 LUMINOUS Lantern Parade at South Bank, where thousands came together to celebrate the cultures, communities and stories that shape Queensland.

Among the lights, we carried a message that sits at the heart of our work: Girls in Afghanistan are being denied formal education, but they have not stopped learning.

We carried books and lights , symbols of knowledge, possibility, and a future every girl has the right to shape for herself.

For Unite for HER, being part of spaces like LUMINOUS goes far beyond visibility. It is about ensuring the voices and lived experiences of girls in Afghanistan are present in public spaces, reaching communities far beyond their own.

When girls are free to learn, they don’t just shape their own futures — they help shape the future of communities, societies and generations to come.

Education is more than a right; it is the foundation of freedom, dignity and possibility.

Carrying our message into one of Queensland’s largest multicultural celebrations.

Unite for HER was proud to join the 2026 LUMINOUS Lantern Parade at South Bank, where thousands came together to celebrate the cultures, communities and stories that shape Queensland.

Among the lights, we carried a message that sits at the heart of our work:

Girls in Afghanistan are being denied formal education but they have not stopped learning.

We carried books and lights symbols of knowledge, possibility, and a future every girl has the right to shape for herself.

For Unite for HER, being part of spaces like LUMINOUS goes far beyond visibility.

It is about ensuring the voices and lived experiences of girls in Afghanistan are present in public spaces, reaching communities far beyond their own.

Education is more than a right,
it is the foundation of freedom, dignity and possibility.

When girls are free to learn, they don’t just shape their own futures but they help shape the future of communities, societies and generations to come.

Carrying knowledge. Carrying light. Moving forward together.

Not every act of resistance is loud.
Sometimes, it looks like a girl opening a book when the world tells her not to.
Every lesson she learns is a quiet refusal to give up on her future.
Stand with girls who refuse to stop learning.

Support Unite for HER and help keep education alive where it is needed most.

Last night in Brisbane, we came together in solidarity with the women and girls of Afghanistan and in response to the events in Herat.

To everyone who joined us, thank you. Your presence was a powerful reminder that the women and girls of Afghanistan are not forgotten, and that their struggle is not theirs alone.

But our vigil cannot be the end of our action. The women and girls detained in Herat are still not free. Gender apartheid in Afghanistan continues. Their rights, freedoms, and futures remain under attack.

From Brisbane to Herat, we must continue to raise our voices, keep Afghanistan in the global spotlight, hold the Taliban accountable, and call on our governments and institutions to do the same.

Solidarity does not end when the candles go out. 🕯️

Unite for HER stands in solidarity with the women and girls in Afghanistan, whose rights are being systematically stripped under Taliban rule.

Girls are barred from education, women are excluded from work and public life, and peaceful protest is met with violence. We are especially concerned for women and girls in Herat, including Jebreil, where reports of detentions and unrest have emerged, and we have lost contact with some of the young women we work with.

We are deeply worried for their safety.

We call for urgent international action and accountability.

Unite for HER stands with women and girls in Afghanistan.

Their rights are human rights.
