What started with hope and a vision for girl’s education is now growing into a movement dedicated to empowering, educating, and uplifting girls everywhere.

While we celebrated Eid in Brisbane, girls in Afghanistan marked another day without school.

In an Afghanistani community, people came together not just to celebrate,
but to stand for something that crosses all borders: the right to learn. At our event, people wrote messages of solidarity on the Unite for HER banner, a simple act carrying a powerful message:

Girls in Afghanistan have not been forgotten.

For over 1,600 days, girls in Afghanistan have been denied education. Yet their voices continue.

“We haven’t stopped learning.”

Their resilience is powerful, but hope alone is not enough. Real change requires action.

While we celebrated Eid in Brisbane, girls in Afghanistan marked another day without school.
In a Afghanistani community, people came together not just to celebrate,

She didn’t just join.
She started working quietly, consistently.

This is Bahar.
She began as an intern at Daneshland.

In a place where opportunities for girls are limited,
she chose to step forward.

She took responsibility.
She showed up.
She became part of the work.

Today, she is not just present
she is contributing.
She is helping something move forward.

This is what we build.
Not just participation,
but agency.

Not just presence,

Not just individuals

After reading a shared book and writing their own critiques, participants come together in an online webinar to reflect and discuss.

These are not just webinars.
They are spaces where girls continue to think—despite being told not to.

They read.
They write.
They question.

And in doing so, they refuse silence. What begins as a book becomes analysis, dialogue, and self-expression. Because learning is not just receiving, it is responding, challenging, and understanding.

This is how learning survives.
This is how it resists.

Stand with them. Support learning where it is most at risk.

Yesterday, members of Unite for HER and the Hazara Association Queensland spoke about the reality Afghan girls are facing today.

More than 2.2 million girls in Afghanistan remain banned from school, making the country the only place in the world where girls are systematically excluded from secondary education. 

But what we also spoke about was something equally important: their resilience.

Despite the restrictions, Afghan girls continue to read, to learn, and to hold onto their dreams.
They have not surrendered their hope.

And they refuse to give up on learning, the world must not give up on them either.

A letter that travelled across hands, across hope, across borders.

Passed gently from one girl in Afghanistan to another… and then another… until it carried their courage all the way here.
