We’re building new pathways to employment 📈

We’re excited to announce Help Trade UP Inclusive Pathways*, a new initiative supporting more people with disability to access employment pathways through apprenticeship and traineeship in the Ipswich Region. 🚀

With a focus on construction and community services, Trade UP will work with local employers to understand their workforce needs and help build their confidence and capability to recruit and retain people with disability. 🤩

At the same time, jobseekers will receive tailored support and preparation to help them build the skills and workplace readiness needed for identified employment opportunities. 🎯

Whether you’re an employer with workforce needs in construction or community services, or a person with disability interested in exploring an apprenticeship or traineeship pathway in these areas, we’d love to hear from you. 👏

With Trade UP commencing early next year, we’re now welcoming expressions of interest from employers and jobseekers interested in being part of the initiative.

Creating more opportunities through textile recycling

Our Eagle Farm team has recently introduced new BlockTexx processing tables, increasing capacity and creating more opportunities for Supported Employees to participate in the textile deconstruction process. 💫

The new tables allow up to four Supported Employees to work together while processing a wider range of materials, including jeans, overalls and other durable textiles.👖

Working in partnership with BlockTexx - textile recovery facility our team removes buttons, zips and seams before the material moves to the next stage of recycling. ♻️

The upgraded setup has increased our processing capacity by more than 300kg of textiles per day and currently supports more than 650 hours of Supported Employment each month. 🚀

For Supported Employee Natalie, knowing where the textiles are going makes the work even more meaningful. 🗨️ “I enjoy the work and knowing that what we’re doing helps keep textiles out of landfill. It feels good to know we’re also helping the environment,” she shared.

This new addition to our Eagle Farm site is not only creating opportunities for people with disability to learn new skills and build confidence, but also to contribute to a circular economy that supports positive environmental outcomes. 👏

Finding the right fit: Jawahir builds confidence at work

When Jawahir first started working at Help’s Acacia Ridge site, she was hesitant to take part in some work tasks and tended to keep to herself.

With support tailored to Jawahir’s individual needs, Employment Support Worker Ingrid worked closely with her, encouraging her to explore a wider variety of tasks and supporting her as she developed new skills. 📈

Over time, Jawahir has tried a variety of food packing and product assembly tasks, continuing to build her skills and discover the work she enjoys.

With each new skill and experience, Jawahir’s confidence continued to grow. She became more engaged at work and started forming stronger connections with the team. 👏

For Employment Coach Kelepi, seeing that change has been particularly rewarding.

🗨️ “We’ve really seen Jawahir transform, from being quite reserved to building some really nice relationships. It’s been great to see her confidence grow as she’s had the opportunity to try different tasks,” he said.

For Jawahir, that change means she now enjoys coming to work. “I enjoy learning new things and making friends at work. It’s fun,” she shared. 🤩

At Help, support is tailored to the individual, and giving supported employees the opportunity to explore different tasks at their own pace can help them discover what they enjoy while continuing to build their skills, confidence and connections at work. 🚀

A new space for Supported Employees at Ipswich 🤩

With a number of changes taking place around our Ipswich site recently, Supported Employees have welcomed the addition of a new lunchroom area to enjoy during their breaks.

The new space has quickly become a popular spot, with both indoor and outdoor seating available depending on how people like to spend their time. 👏

The feedback has been really positive. Graeme likes that it's closer to the sheds, James says it's been a great addition to the site, and Josh's favourite feature is the bench seating. 💫

It's been wonderful to see how well the team has embraced the changes across the site and made the new space their own.

From learning new skills and celebrating milestones to building connections and supporting each other, it's been another busy month across Help. Here's a look at some of the highlights 👇

1. We introduced our Employment Coach Talia. Since joining our Eagle Farm team, Talia has been supporting Supported Employees to build confidence, skills and independence while creating opportunities for connection and inclusion. 🤩

2. In partnership with Containers for Change (COEX), our teams continue to contribute to every stage of producing the purpose-built baskets that support container recycling across Queensland. It's a great example of how Supported Employees contribute to meaningful commercial outcomes. ♻️

3. Our teams once again laced up their runners for Bridge to Brisbane. It was a fantastic day filled with encouragement, teamwork and plenty of kilometres together. 🏃

4. We welcomed our communities back to Help Nursery for another successful Plants for Purpose Big Sale Day, bringing together plant lovers, gardening enthusiasts and supporters of meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability. 🌿

5. Our Inclusive Employment Australia teams across QLD, NSW and VIC came together to share ideas, strengthen their knowledge and continue building on the great work they're doing to support people with disability on their employment journey. 🤝

6. We wrapped up another fantastic tipping season, bringing together supported employees, support staff and corporate team members. Congratulations to Supported Employee Matthew, who took out first place in both the AFL and NRL competitions, and thank you to Arthur, Trinette and Rica for helping make the competitions such a success. 🏆

7. Help Nursery recently celebrated two important milestones, with Supported Employee Sarah reaching 5 years and Supported Employee Michael celebrating 1 year with the team. Congratulations to both on their achievements! 🎉

8. From Eagle Farm, Supported Employee Jason has been challenging himself to learn new skills and build his confidence and independence at work. Through regular practice, individualised support and a strong focus on workplace safety, he recently learned to operate an electric pallet jack. 👏

9. We celebrated Supported Employee Xavier who has been making great progress at our Acacia Ridge site. With tailored support and the right adjustments in place, he has built confidence while continuing to develop his skills and independence. ✨

10. At Ipswich, Supported Employees have been making the most of a new lunchroom area, which has quickly become a popular place to take a break, spend time together and enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the day. ☀️

Another footy season wrapped up! 🏆

Our annual Footy Tipping Competitions have once again brought together Supported Employees, support staff and corporate team members for a season of friendly rivalry, plenty of laughs (and guesses!) and lots of footy conversations along the way. 💫

A special shout-out to Supported Employee Arthur, whose enthusiasm and organisation helped keep the competitions running smoothly throughout the season. We'd also like to acknowledge Trinette and Rica for their ongoing support behind the scenes and for helping make the competitions such a success. 👏

Congratulations to Supported Employee Matthew, who had an incredible season and took out first place in both the AFL and NRL tipping competitions! 🤩

Thank you to everyone who got involved. Activities like these are a great way to build connections, create a sense of community and bring people together across our teams. ❤️

What a fantastic day at our biggest Plants for Purpose Big Sale Day yet! 🤩

Thank you to everyone who joined us. From keen gardeners and local families to long-time nursery supporters, it was wonderful to see so many people come together to pick up a plant and support our purpose. 🌿

A special thank you to our Nursery team, volunteers and everyone who helped make the day possible, as well as the Boronia Brew team who kept visitors fuelled throughout the day. 👏

Every plant sold helps grow meaningful employment for people with disability, and days like this remind us just how powerful community support can be. ❤️

We loved welcoming our community once again and sharing what makes Help Nursery so special.
