Together We’re Making a Difference: South Sudan Update 🌍💙

Our team recently met with the South Sudanese Association in Queensland to capture photos and catch up, as preparations continue for the first donation container headed to South Sudan. The container will be collected Wednesday and is scheduled to depart the port on 15th December, beginning its journey to Rumbek. Once shipped, it is expected to take around three months to arrive, where the donated items will be distributed throughout local communities.

We’re grateful for the incredible support shown so far and pleased to share that another container is already being prepared at our Laundry site, filled with donated linen and additional hospital beds.

Our CEO, Wendy, highlighted the importance of this partnership and the impact of repurposing our linen items, sharing: “When our linen reaches the end of its useful life in Australia, it still has value elsewhere. We’re grateful it can be used to support people in need, and we deeply appreciate our ongoing relationship with the South Sudanese community.”

For those wishing to still contribute, the GoFundMe page will remain open to assist with the transport expenses for the upcoming shipment.

Happy Directors Day!

Yesterday our directors didn’t just celebrate from the office, they came into the Laundry and worked alongside our team.

It was great to see them jump in, to our daily work, get hands on and truly experience what our staff do everyday.

A big thank you to our director Laurie Rogencamp and the Chairman of the board, John Gilmore for spending time with our team and recognising the hard work that goes into delivering our services every single day!

Together, We Can Make a Difference!

The 2024 South Sudan floods refer to catastrophic flooding across the nation, directly impacting over 735,000 people across 38 of South Sudan’s 78 counties and the Abyei Administrative Area, and displacing more than 65,000 individuals. In 2025, further flooding has exacerbated the situation.

The South Sudanese Community Association in Queensland has been working tirelessly to improve the lives of not only South Sudanese Australians, but also their community and families in South Sudan. A member of this association is our amazing colleague Majuong Mabor, who came to Australia from South Sudan in 2002 and has been part of the Holy Cross Services (HCS) family for over 11 years.

Majuong, after hearing that HCS planned to donate a number of blankets to those in need, quickly identified a symbiotic relationship to be made. HCS donated 1,500 pre-loved blankets to his community group, which successfully shipped them to South Sudan, where they were distributed to health centres, churches, and families across the country.

Seeing the impact this made, we are partnering again with the South Sudan Community Association in Queensland to assist in shipping a 40-foot container stored at our commercial laundry plant, containing vital aid. In this container is clothing, a washing machine, essential items, and thanks to Wesley Mission Queensland 52 hospital beds and 13 wheelchairs for local health centres and families.

Through a GoFundMe campaign led by an HCS employee, funds are being raised to cover the transport and delivery costs of these much-needed items.
