For every BellSonance performance, we prepare with great care and attention to detail. 🎶👘
When we present music connected with another country or culture, we want to do much more than simply perform the notes. We take time to study the music, language, history and traditions, and we carefully consider the costumes and visual details that help us present each culture thoughtfully and respectfully.
For our performance at 祭ブリスベン Matsuri Brisbane, Amalia prepared and performed the entire vocal program in Japanese. The traditional costumes became another very special part of this journey.
We completely fell in love with the beauty and artistry of Japanese kimono. Amalia wore BellSonance’s own vintage kimono, made from natural silk and approximately 50 to 60 years old. It is an exquisite piece, filled with history, craftsmanship and beauty, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have it as part of our collection.
Our heartfelt thanks to Sachiko Hinze from Kimonoya Brisbane (www.kimonoyainbrisbane.com) for helping Amalia dress correctly, carefully tying her obi and providing the beautiful accessories that completed the traditional look. Sachiko also provided Artemii’s cotton kimono and helped us understand how each element should be worn.
Artemii’s costume was completed with a remarkable museum jacket provided by our dear friend Aurelia Noran. We are deeply grateful to Aurelia for trusting us with such a special piece and for helping us create the right look for his performance.
