Not all hives are equal, and during bloom, that difference shows up in your fruit set. ๐Ÿ

BeeHero gives avocado growers real-time data on colony strength throughout the flowering window, so you're not relying on hive numbers alone.

Why work with young chefs? Because the recipes they create today shape the ingredients they reach for throughout their careers ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿฅ‘

That's the thinking behind the Australian Fruits Recipe Competition โ€“ an initiative thatโ€™s training next generation hospitality talent across Southeast Asia to work with Australian fruits.

The challenge? Culinary students in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand are competing to create original dishes that put Australian avocados, table grapes and summerfruit centre stage.

The winning Malaysian students showcased their dishes at the recent UOW Malaysia International Food Festival. They pushed beyond the obvious and into genuinely creative territory, from an avocado duck pho to a nasi kerabu with avocado.

Congratulations to our Malaysia winners:

๐ŸŒŸ Heng Ee Lian - summerfruit rice paper cup & avocado duck pho
๐ŸŒŸ Ryan Goo Rhuey Yang - avocado tartare & miso salmon
๐ŸŒŸ Richelle Venkatesh - nasi kerabu with avocado & avocado mousse

The competition continues next in Singapore, and Thailand's leg kicks off in late August.

The initiative is part of our partnership with the School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts (SHTCA) at University of Wollongong Malaysia, and is made possible by an ASEAN-Australia Centre Grant.

๐Ÿฅ‘ Happy National Avocado Day! ๐Ÿฅ‘

Today we're celebrating the incredible Australian industry and supply chain who work year-round to bring nutritious, delicious avocados from the orchard to the plate.

Growers, packers, marketers, wholesalers and retail staff โ€“ thank you for your dedication, passion and commitment to delivering our nationโ€™s beloved, premium avocados.

Wherever you are around the country, we hope you โ€˜avo good National Avocado Day!

How can avocado growers strengthen profitability and improve fruit quality? ๐Ÿฅ‘

Thatโ€™s what we explored today at the North Queensland Avocado Regional Forum in Atherton, where growers, presenters, and industry stakeholders came together to share practical insights and industry updates.

We heard aboutโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ“Š Benchmarking and profitability, with a focus on yield, sizing, grade and fertiliser/chemical use โ€“ and why the most profitable growers are the ones who know their numbers and manage to their margin.

๐ŸŒฑ Improving nutrient efficiency, matching timing and placement to variety, soil and stage, with practical tips on scheduling irrigation and fertigation around the feeder zone.

๐Ÿฅ‘ Fruit robustness, and how calcium and nitrogen balance, along with healthy root systems, influence fruit quality and resilience during critical fruit development windows.

๐Ÿ“ˆ National industry update, covering production forecasts to 2030, the NQ seasonal supply window, and tools to manage fruit-to-fruit maturity variation in market.

Great discussion throughout the day created valuable opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and sharing practical insights from across the region.

A big thank you to Costa Avocados for hosting the orchard walk, our speakers and organisers:

Lauren Jones (RMCG), Liz Singh (AgriHort Solutions), Hayleigh Dawson and Lawrence Massaso (Avocados Australia), Dr Geoff Dickinson, David Bin and Isabella Ellmers (Queensland Agriculture).

And to everyone who came along and joined the discussion!

The forum was organised and delivered by the Avocado Industry Development and Extension Project team (AV23010), funded by Hort Innovation using the avocado research and development levy and contributions from the Australian Government.

Tomorrow is National Avocado Day! ๐Ÿฅ‘

Weโ€™re recognising all the hard work that goes into putting quality Australian avocados into shopping trollies and onto plates around the world.

And of course, an important part of that work is protecting locally-grown fruit from pests and diseases. ๐Ÿชฒ

Weโ€™re proud to work with project partners to support biosecurity preparedness across the avocado industry.

This includes initiatives like the new webinar series thatโ€™s helping growers learn more about exotic pest threats, potential industry impacts and practical steps to prepare for future biosecurity risks.

Presented by Plant Health Australia and Queensland Agriculture, webinar 1 is now available to watch with more sessions coming up in August and September.
