Queensland Migrant WorkWise We're a free program empowering migrant workers to take action against exploitation by helping them understand their workplace rights and visa protections.

Delivered by the Queensland Council of Unions, funded by the Department of Home Affairs. Queensland Migrant WorkWise (QMWW) is a free education and information program supporting migrant workers across Queensland. We help temporary visa holders understand their workplace rights and new visa protections so they can take action against exploitation and feel confident at work. Delivered by the Queensland Council of Unions and funded by the Department of Home Affairs, we work with community groups, unions, and employers to build fair and safe workplaces for everyone.

Jagath was at the Bundaberg Multicultural Festival over the weekend talking to community members about their rights at work and the visa protections available to temporary visa holders!

More than 22 countries were proudly represented, displaying national flags and cultural decorations. Australia is a rich nation with an incredible multicultural society. The event beautifully showcased this diversity through a variety of foods and cultural performances.

Thanks to RTBU Queensland Secretary Peter Allen and the RTBU team for having Queensland Migrant WorkWise at their recent Delegates Conference!

We had a great time speaking with delegates and union officials at our stall and joining the “Organising in a Modern Workplace” panel to share our experiences engaging and building power with migrant workers across Queensland Rail.

Outreach Officers Lucia and Kenzie recently joined the UniSQ Student Guild podcast to chat about our program and how we support migrant workers and international students across Queensland.

They spoke about workplace rights, some of the challenges temporary visa holders can face at work, where to turn if you need information or support and shared their own stories as temporary visa holders in the workplace.

Last month, we attended the Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union Delegate Conference.

We had the opportunity to speak with union delegates about our program, the services we provide, some of the challenges temporary visa holders may face in the workplace, and how delegates can refer workers to us for support.

Thank you to Secretary Sarah Beaman, Assistant Secretaries Grant Burton and Fridae King, and the whole QNMU team for their support during our first year!
