Steve’s wish was to revisit Redcliffe Jetty, a place steeped in cherished family memories. Despite the grey and rainy sky, the day radiated with warmth and laughter. Sharing a meal and a cold beer with his loved ones, Steve's wish is a reminder on the great joy that can be found in life’s simplest moments.

For Kirsty, a special day at Australia Zoo with her husband and family was all about making precious memories together. She was especially excited to see and feed the giraffes. This was just one of the highlights from this joyful day for Kirsty. After they watched the Wildlife Warriors show at the Crocoseum, her family were ecstatic about how the day turned out and all the adventures they shared. Kirsty’s wish was a beautiful reminder of how meaningful and heartfelt experiences can be.

Sue’s wish was to go fishing at Jacob’s Well with her family, followed by a fish and chips lunch.

Often on sunny days, Sue would find herself at Jacob’s Well on the pier casting a line, fishing being one of her favourite hobbies. Despite the wind, she managed to catch three fish! Her family were very proud and grateful for the quality time together, with Sue having the “best day.”

Enjoying their fish and chips for lunch the day was full of fun, laughter and memories.

Laurie’s wish was to visit his newly purchased house and see how the renovations were coming along. Surrounded by his family, he watched as tradies worked busily to bring his vision for the home to life. While a sombre day there was a feeling of contentment at the home that he had been able to provide for his family, a house that had become the home he always dreamed of for them.

There truly is no place like home.

Joan's wish was to visit the home where she had lived for 65 years. Greeted by her family and their dogs, clearly overjoyed to see her, she felt a sense of comfort and happiness. Although the day was cloudy and slightly cool, Joan and her family enjoyed watching the cows in the paddock, a long-cherished pastime

To round off the afternoon, they all enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea. Such a simple but comforting way to spend a day at home.

Ambulance Wish Queensland brought a magical afternoon to palliative care patients, families and staff at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, holding its 3rd Annual 'Mega Wish' celebration during this year’s National Palliative Care Week.

Despite a rainy day, spirits were high as patients and staff cuddled with baby animals, enjoyed delicious food and took in some live music.

Ambulance Wish Queensland extends our sincere gratitude to:

🧡 Our service partner Metro South Palliative Care Service Princess Alexandra Hospital, the PA Research Foundation and especially CNC Angela Lane for helping bring the afternoon together

🧡 Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farms for allowing the patients and staff to cuddle with baby goats, sheep, chickens and ducks

🧡 Nic from St John Events and Entertainment who provided the perfect music vibe for the afternoon

Basking in the glow of the sun setting over the Glasshouse Mountains, Marissa, her husband, children and their dog enjoyed a picturesque picnic together.

As they watched the sun set over the landscape, they sipped juice, laughed, and savoured each other’s company. Throughout the afternoon Marissa felt a warm and positive energy all around her, a feeling of pure contentment, perfectly in line with her motto ‘to live life to the fullest’.

This was a simple moment, just family and nature, yet it carried so much meaning for Marissa. Sometimes it is the small things, like a sunset shared with the ones you love, that truly matter.

On Tuesday the 26th of May, Ambulance Wish Queensland had the privilege of supporting a deeply meaningful Return to Country wish.

For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, returning to Country is far more than a journey home. It is a connection to family, community, culture, identity and spirit, something that can hold profound significance at the end of life.

We were honoured to have played a small part in helping Mark travel from Rockhampton back to his Country in Newcastle to be surrounded by family. Before the journey began, we were also able to reunite Mark with his daughter, Melanie, bringing her from Newcastle to Rockhampton Hospital so they could be together and travel home safely, side by side.

Witnessing their reunion was a powerful reminder that, at the heart of palliative care, is connection.

We extend our sincere thanks to the First Nations Health Office, Queensland Health, the Rockhampton Hospital Specialist Palliative Care and Cancer Care Services, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health staff, Nursing staff, Doctors and Practitioners (Specialist Palliative Care) from Central Queensland Health and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) for their collaboration and care in making this wish possible.
