Final hours to have your say.

The e-petition asking Queensland Parliament to review Wynnum's Major Regional Activity Centre (MRAC) classification closes tonight. If you'd like Wynnum's future growth to reflect its bayside village character, please sign before it's gone.

Wynnum currently sits in the same planning tier as Carindale, Indooroopilly and Toowong, centres built around major transport and employment hubs and high-rise infrastructure. Our petition simply asks Parliament to review that classification and consider redesignating Wynnum as a District Centre, a tier that better reflects its heritage, function and bayside village character.

The Queensland Government is reviewing the SEQ Regional Plan right now, so this is a genuine window for resident input, and once it closes, it closes.

Wynnum is currently classified as a "Major Centre," the same tier as Carindale, Indooroopilly and Toowong. This classification permits higher-density development, including the recent high-rise projects across the suburb.

Wynnum doesn't have the same transport and employment infrastructure as those centres, it's a bayside suburb with a lower-density village character.

The Queensland Government is currently reviewing the SEQ Regional Plan. Our petition asks that Wynnum be reconsidered for re-designation as a District Centre, a classification intended for areas without the transport and employment infrastructure of a Major Centre.

This isn't a call to stop development. The petition asks for growth that reflects Wynnum's scale and bayside setting, rather than the density typically associated with a Major Centre classification.

The petition closes tomorrow, Monday 10 August.

❤️ 💚 THANK YOU, COX PARK! 💚♥️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Protect Cox Park Party yesterday!

It was wonderful to see families, neighbours and community members enjoying the park, having conversations and sharing what Cox Park means to them.

And judging by the chalk artwork, there were some pretty happy little park users too! 😍🎨

While the party might be over, the conversation certainly isn’t.

We’re still waiting on answers from BCC regarding a number of issues and questions raised by the community about the proposed changes to Cox Park.

In the meantime, we want to make sure local voices are properly captured.

This morning, representatives from WMCG met with the CEO of Carina Leagues Club to discuss the revised development proposal they are preparing to submit to BCC.

While we did not see the final plans, we were shown architectural impressions and given an overview of a number of changes that have been made since the proposal was first presented to the community last November.

Importantly, we also had the opportunity to share the results of WMCG’s community survey directly with Carina Leagues Club.

That survey captured feedback from more than 600 people and provides a valuable picture of community sentiment about the proposal. We were able to discuss how some of the changes now being proposed respond to issues raised through the survey, while other community concerns remain.

This is exactly why WMCG believes early, informed community engagement matters. Our role isn’t simply to react to development proposals after decisions have been made but it’s to make sure community views are heard and, wherever possible, help shape better outcomes before plans are finalised.

Community consultation tomorrow

Carina Leagues Club is holding community information sessions tomorrow where residents will be able to view rendered images of the revised proposal and hear an overview of the changes.

Those attending will also have an opportunity to provide feedback. We understand that feedback may form part of the material provided by Carina Leagues Club in its next submission to BCC.

If this proposal matters to you, we encourage you to attend, take a good look at what is being proposed and provide your feedback.

WMCG will publish the community survey results we shared with Carina Leagues Club over the coming week so everyone can see what our community told us, and how the revised proposal compares with that feedback.

Community voices are most useful when they’re heard before the plans are set in stone.

The Queensland Government is reviewing the SEQ Regional Plan, and a Parliament e-petition is calling for Wynnum's Major Regional Activity Centre (MRAC) classification to be reviewed, with consideration given to redesignating Wynnum as a District Centre. One that better reflects its role, heritage and bayside character, while continuing to support thoughtful, well-planned growth.
