The AIF Memorial Lodge No. 289 UGLQ The AIF Memorial Lodge No. 289 meets on the second Friday of February, June, August and October. The A.I.F. Another famous member of our lodge was Bro.

Each year on the 25th of April we host an ANZAC Day service that is open to the public to honour and remember those who have served. Memorial Lodge was formed in 1922 in memory of the many Australian service men and women who gave their lives for Australia in the Great War. Originally membership was restricted to returned servicemen; today it is open to all men who wish to honour the ANZAC traditi

on, although the Lodge does still retain strong links to the Defence Forces and returned services. Our Lodge is unique in that we have a large public ceremony every ANZAC Day evening in the Grand Hall , which is conducted along similar lines to the many ANZAC Services held across Australia that day. At normal lodge meetings, we conduct a small part of the ceremony at the end of
the meeting referred to as the vacant chair ceremony, on the vacant chair is placed the apron of Bro. Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith, the famous Australian aviator and war time pilot. General Sir T.W. Glasgow, a Great War Australian Imperial Forces General and later Senator and Minister for Defence. Our membership is of mixed ages, although it leans strongly towards middle aged to retirees, but we welcome any gentleman who wishes to honour the ANZAC spirit within a Masonic Lodge. Many of our new applications to join are coming from current serving or recently retired Defence Force Personnel
