Buy A Bale Rural Aid supporting Aussie farmers through our Buy A Bale. Australian Farmers are doing it tough. Please do what you can to help us help them.

Drought, bushfire, halting of live exports and no wet season have meant hundreds of thousands of cattle may die or have to be put down. In the meantime, farming families have no income and are struggling mentally.

Devastating vision from the Streatham–Skipton corridor in Victoria where over the weekend, a grassfire tore through the area burning more than 19,000 hectares of farmland and impacting homes, fencing, sheds, stored hay and livestock.

Communities were forced to evacuate as emergency warnings were issued and roads closed. While the fire is now contained and residents are beginning to return home, the reality on the ground is confronting.

Rural Aid are visiting farmers impacted by the fires, listening to what they need right now and ensuring support reaches those doing it toughest.

If you’re a farmer who’s been impacted by the fires, please reach out to register for support. You don’t have to face this alone.

Rural Aid’s commitment to drought-affected farmers continues and we won't stop.

For more than a year, we’ve been delivering essential hay, water, financial assistance and counselling to help farming families across the country endure one of the toughest dry spells in decades.

Last month in South Australia, our team delivered 74 bales of hay, 50 tonnes in total, to six local farmers in Karoonda, providing vital feed for hungry livestock and hope when it’s needed most.

Thanks to the incredible support of the local community, the hay drop ran seamlessly. From the A & A Litchfield crew donating their loader to the wonderful drop point coordinator, Alanna, who fired up a sausage sizzle for every farmer rolling in to collect their load.

It’s this spirit of generosity, connection and action that keeps Rural Aid and our farmers going strong.
We continue to stand with farming families through adversity and together, we’re helping our farmers hold on to hope.

Across South Australia’s Flinders Ranges, the ground is dry, the dams are low, and fourth-generation farmer Dale is holding on.

“We’ve had just 98 mils for the year - about half of last year. The feed’s very short. It won’t last through summer.”

For Dale, farming isn’t just a job - it’s his family’s story, his home, his legacy.

And like so many Aussie farmers, he’s doing everything he can to get through the drought.
That’s where Rural Aid comes in - delivering hay, water, and hope when it’s needed most. 🌾

🎥 Watch Dale’s story and see how your generosity helps Aussie farmers hold on to hope.

This drought isn’t just about empty paddocks - it’s creeping into our dinner plates. 🥔

The rains have still not arrived in South Australia, so Rural Aid continues to support farming families doing it tough. The latest Rural Aid hay drop delivered 76 bales to 6 farmers to Sandalwood in the Karoonda East Murray LGA.

South Australian growers are facing some of the hardest drought conditions in years. Potato farmers, who supply most of the nation’s fresh spuds, are reporting huge crop losses, with the effects now being felt across supermarkets nationwide.

Every bale, every load, every act of kindness helps our mates in the bush hang on through these tough months. 💛

🌾 Drought Update: Southern Australia

Southern Australia is heading into summer facing one of the harshest droughts in recent memory, with rainfall over the past two years hitting record lows in parts of Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania.

Reports from farmers near Warrnambool in Victoria, advise that delayed green shoots and dwindling feed supplies mean tough decisions, many are spending hundreds of thousands on hay and silage just to keep livestock going. Some smaller farms are struggling to secure enough feed at any price.

While pockets of rain arrived in June and July, it may be too late for many paddocks to recover before the summer heat puts additional pressure on crops and livestock. The drought’s impact is felt not just economically, but on the wellbeing of rural communities.

Rural Aid continues to support farmers and families through these challenging times. Most recently, hay trucks have been sent to Hawker and Cadell in South Australia bringing 143 bales of hay to ten farmers in need of feed for their livestock.

Our work is made possible through the generosity of the public, our partners and supporters. To help provide assitance for our farmers visit:

This year, many farming families have been impacted by devastating floods and prolonged droughts. The pressure on farmers, livestock, pastures, and communities has been immense. These are not fleeting moments of hardship, they weigh on our farmers day after day.

That’s why Rural Aid has supported more than 545 farmers with over 8,000 bales of hay. From Victoria to Queensland, the Flinders Ranges to the New England. Week in, week out, our hay convoys have crisscrossed the country to reach farmers who need it most.

We’re there not just in the moments of crisis, but through the long, difficult seasons in between, providing support farmers can rely on.

Our work isn’t about one-off gestures. Our hay trucks show up again and again.

Every bale we deliver represents more than just feed, it’s hope, reassurance, and proof that our farmers are not alone.

That’s what standing by our mates in the bush is all about.

💚 We love hearing from our farmers!

When a bale of hay arrives on a struggling farm, it’s more than just feed for livestock, it’s hope, relief, and a reminder that someone cares.

Recently, we received heartfelt messages from farmers who’ve been doing it tough:

“Just a note to thank you for our lovely hay… we are very grateful and our cattle love it.” – Rob & Jenny

“Please pass on our appreciation to all involved – we’re extremely grateful.” – Brian & Lesley

“Such an amazing bit of help after these horrible floods.”

“Words are just not enough for the gratefulness we have… thank you from the bottom of my heart.” – George

These words are why we do what we do. They show the real impact your donations have, from easing the stress of feeding stock, to lifting spirits after disaster strikes.

To our supporters, thank you. You’re not just delivering hay, you’re delivering hope.

Thank you for helping us change lives, one bale at a time 💚

For the first time ever, Rural Aid is delivering hay to the iconic Kangaroo Island, marking a powerful and historic milestone in our support for Aussie farmers.
Kangaroo Island’s farming community has faced incredible challenges in recent years. From the catastrophic bushfires that claimed over 52,000 livestock and nearly 1,000 beehives, to now enduring the island’s driest period in almost 50 years. The pressure has been relentless.

But today, hope is on the move.

Rural Aid’s hay trucks boarded the ferry, carrying 238 bales of vital hay to 19 farmers. It’s more than just hay, it’s a message that help is here, and that no farmer stands alone.

A heartfelt thank you to the South Australian Government and Primary Industries and Regions SA (PIRSA) for funding the transport of this much-needed support. With partners like these, we're able to keep delivering practical, powerful relief to where it’s needed most.

Thanks to our incredible supporters, Rural Aid is on the ground in Bletchley, South Australia, delivering much-needed hay to nine farmers battling the relentless drought.
A few millimetres of rain has brought a hint of green — but it’s not enough. Without significant rainfall soon, those precious new grass shoots will soon wither, leaving livestock without feed.
Rural Aid have been standing with our farmers through this drought providing hay, water, financial assistance and ongoing mental health support.
For many farmers, the road to recovery is long. We will continue to provide support to ensure no farmer stands alone.

Rural Aid have been on the ground in the flood-affected NSW Mid Coast region, walking alongside farmers, listening to their stories, providing support and seeing firsthand the scale of destruction.
From lost homes and farming infrastructure to spoiled feed and stranded livestock, the damage is heartbreaking—and in many cases, worse than anyone expected. Some floodwaters reached levels well beyond previous records, overwhelming even the best-prepared farms.

What we’re hearing:
• Towns and farms alike are still underwater or covered in mud and debris
• Some farmers are still recovering from past disasters with this flood only adding to their challenges
• Even when feed was stocked up, it’s now spoiled by floodwater, leaving livestock hungry and farms needing hay

Yet amid this devastation, hope is alive.

Communities are rallying together. Farmers from less-affected areas are helping neighbours with hay drops and clean-up support. Families who’ve lost their homes are being taken in by friends. Recovery Centres are seeing strong attendance—demonstrating that people are seeking help, connection, and support.

If you are a farmer and have been affected please register with Rural Aid so we can get support to you as quickly as possible.
