Advance care planning is about so much more than forms and paperwork.

It’s about listening, understanding what matters most to people, and creating space for conversations that honour values, culture, family, and community.

Join us for our upcoming education webinar as we explore advanced care planning through the lens of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the role of culture in care decisions, why communication and consent matter, and how services and communities can support conversations around death, dying, and grieving.

This webinar invites health professionals, community members, carers, and anyone interested in providing more culturally responsive and compassionate care.

26/05/2026

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, a time to reflect on our shared history and what it means to be All In for Reconciliation. At Palliative Care Queensland, reconciliation means taking meaningful action to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can access palliative care that is culturally safe, community-led, and grounded in connection to family, community and Country.

Too many First Nations peoples continue to face barriers to accessing palliative and end-of-life care that honours their cultural values, identity and wishes. Addressing these inequities requires partnership, listening and a commitment to doing things differently.

That is why one of our key priorities in our budget submission is to develop and embed culturally safe, community-led First Nations palliative care resources, in partnership with multicultural communities, peak bodies and representative organisations.

Together, we can help build a palliative care system that better reflects the diverse voices and lived experiences of Queensland communities.

26/05/2026

National Sorry Day is a time to acknowledge and reflect on the profound grief, loss and intergenerational trauma experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly members of the Stolen Generations.

At Palliative Care Queensland, we understand the importance of recognising and honouring people’s life stories, experiences and connections, including the trauma that can shape how individuals, families and communities engage with healthcare and support at the end of life.

On National Sorry Day, we recognise the role the palliative care sector must play in reconciliation by embedding compassion, cultural safety and community-led approaches into the care we provide.

As we reflect, we recommit to advocating for palliative care that honours identity, connection to Country, and the right for every person to receive care that is safe, respectful and culturally responsive.
