West Winds Concert Band

West Winds Concert Band West Winds Concert Band is a community concert band based in the Western suburbs of Brisbane. New members are always welcome.

The West Winds Concert Band together with the Kate Street Big Band make up the BrizWest Community Music Ensembles Inc. West Winds, formerly the BrizWest Concert Band, began life as an adult learners' band in Toowong in late 1997 and we're still going strong today! Our players have a wide variety of backgrounds and musical experience ranging from professionals to happy amateurs of all ages. Our rep

ertoire includes arrangements of popular movie themes, musicals, classic marches, classical favourites, jazz standards and familiar pop tunes. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings in Bardon with public performances several times a year.

Term 4 of music-making is well underway!
This term we have welcomed Bernie Hoesman as our conductor, who has been working hard with us on our Christmas repertoire🎄🤩. We have been appreciating Bernie's depth of conducting experience and also enjoy his humour!

Wednesday night's rehearsal was a special one - it was our last rehearsal with Sean Burke as our conductor.

We had a play of Holst's First and Second suites in Eb, and Sean got his tuba out to demonstrate the tuba solo at the end of Second Suite - it was exciting to hear Sean's glorious tuba skills, and have him play along with us.

Then we had a little party with some great food to farewell Sean (thank you to the members who contributed - it was delicious!).

It is sad to see Sean leave, but we wish him well. We all really enjoyed having him as our conductor, and we have grown so much under his musical leadership! We'll miss him.

We are still looking for a new conductor, so if you're interested, contact us!

Rehearsals start again on 8th October.

We were back to an almost full band in normal band formation last night! We were missing a few band members due to injuries and hospitalisation - we wish those members speedy recoveries. The rest of us worked hard on our concert program "Our Favourite Things". 6th September 2pm at Rainworth State School - be there or be square!

West Winds has grown to panoramic proportions!

We were a bit light-on last night though (lots of illness), so our conductor Sean thought it would be fun for us to sit in a big circle. It was a good listening exercise for us as we prepare for our upcoming concert.

Sean has a wiiiiiiide range of skills, including, as it turns out, conducting a band arranged in a circle - he was jumping around in circles all night!

You can check out the fun at "Our Favourite Things", Saturday 6th September 2pm at Rainworth State School hall. This will also be our last concert with Sean before he heads off on a new adventure.
