Sad to hear this. Leo was a great supporter of our Band, and was proactive in getting our first rehearsal and storage venue. As an ANZAC Day TV commentator, Leo always gave us some extra attention. Leo was instrumental in establishing the Australian SAS, establishing RAN submarine co-operation with SAS, establishing Australian all-round Parachute operations and in fact was in the first parachute "Stick" into Malaya to help defend it against Indonesia. When army records went computerised, the computer identified a disparity between his lenght of service and, his date of birth. He, like many, lied about his age at enlistment when he was infact only 14 years old and, within a year, he was in combat defending South Korea. If you saw last year's ANZAC Day TV Promo, this is the gentleman to whom I was speaking in that interview.

This is to advise that Leo William Walsh bn 16 June 1936 passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 8 August 2026. Leo was an inaugural member of Victoria Barracks Historical Society, which later became the Queensland Military Historical Society.

Leo’s funeral is being held on Thursday 20 August 2026 at Mt Thompson Crematorium, East Chapel, 329 Nursery Road, Holland Park at 11 a.m. The service will be live streamed for anyone who is unable to attend in person.
