On 6 June, we celebrate Queensland Day and mark the moment Queensland stood on its own, officially separating from New South Wales in 1859.

The Brolga has featured on the Queensland Coat of Arms since 1977. Brolgas are one of Queensland’s most distinctive birds and are known as the Native Companions.

In January 1986 the Brolga was announced as the official bird emblem of Queensland.
