A new trailer might seem like a simple purchase, but for the Port MacDonnell Landcare Group, funding via a Responsible Wood Community Grant was vital to help them keep important community work moving 🌱

With money to replace their rusted, unsafe trailer with a new galvanised one to transport tools and plants, the group have been able to continue work that benefits the wider community - enhancing local walking areas, involving school children in planting activities and establishing shelterbelts that improve biodiversity and provide wind protection on local properties.

Know a deserving community project? Encourage them to apply for a Responsible Wood 2026 Community Grant!

Through the program, regional and rural community groups may apply for grants of $2,000 to $15,000 to deliver local forest-based projects that provide benefits to both communities and the forests they rely on.

Last year, we received applications for projects like interpretive forest signage, nature play spaces, Indigenous-led restoration, ecological surveys driven by local volunteers, habitat protection, trailers for collecting fallen timber for repurposing in community initiatives, skills development and youth programs grounded in forest connection, to name just a few. And we're looking forward to learning more about projects in our communities in 2026!

Applications close at 11pm Thursday 12 November.

For 27 years, the Awards have celebrated outstanding timber design in the built environment, building a rich legacy of innovation and achievement.

Responsible Wood has announced that Chief Executive Officer Simon Dorries has tendered his resignation after more than 11 years of dedicated service to the organisation and sustainable forest certification in Australia.

What a fantastic outcome! We're proud to have supported the Port MacDonnell Landcare Group through our Community Grants Program. Congratulations to the team, your tireless efforts to support habitat regeneration are a credit to your commitment to local wildlife - and we're glad we were able to help fund purchase of your trailer.

With the help of the Responsible Wood Community Grant program, Port Macdonnell Landcare Group were able to source this top quality, fully galvanised trailer with stainless steel sides from Plunketts Trailers in Mount Gambier. We expect it will withstand the salty coastal air for many years. The trailer carries our groups tools and tree guards and has already been out and about on a number of planting days in 2026. It is here pictured with group members at a Biolinks project where about 800 local natives were added to a planting to further improve habitat for local wildlife.
