As part of the regular review process, public comment is now being sought on an amendment to Australian/New Zealand Standard for Sustainable Forest Management (AS/NZS 4708:2021).

Developed by Responsible Wood, AS/NZS 4708 sets out requirements for sustainable forest management in Australia and New Zealand. It forms part of the Responsible Wood Certification Scheme and supports PEFC-endorsed certification in Australia. In New Zealand, it underpins the PEFC-recognised sustainable forest management scheme.

Before project sourcing certification, achieving Chain of Custody certification across large construction projects involving multiple contractors was a challenge.

Until Sydney Metro Northwest showed Australia it could be done.

As the first project in the southern hemisphere to achieve Responsible Wood and PEFC International project certification, it proved that responsibly sourced timber could be verified at infrastructure scale.

With increasingly stringent procurement and responsible sourcing expectations, project certification remains an important tool for demonstrating supply chain assurance in complex construction environments.

As demand for certified timber grows, businesses across the supply chain are being asked to demonstrate where their materials come from.

Responsible Wood Chain of Custody certification provides that assurance, ensuring certified material is identified, managed and verified at every stage of the supply chain.

Considering Chain of Custody certification for your business? It’s about giving customers confidence, meeting procurement requirements and showing that responsible sourcing is part of your business.

Want an easy way to support responsible forestry?

Look for the Responsible Wood or PEFC International logos on the products you buy. It’s your assurance that the wood or fibre used in that product comes from a responsibly managed forest.

You’ll find the logo on printed materials, packaging, furniture, timber products, copier paper, envelopes and more.

By choosing Responsible Wood and PEFC, you’re supporting the sustainable management of forests - and that's a choice you can feel good about.
