Do you know all the integration techniques? Usually let Wolfram do the work for you? In either case, the integration bee is for you. Come along Wednesday the 9th at 6pm to 07-234 to our integration bee and battle it out over the whiteboard/blackboard (or just come along to watch your friends struggle).

An integration bee is like a spelling bee, but instead of spelling words, the contestants solve integrals. We will have integral for all abilities; even if MATH1051 was the last time you touched an integral, you'll still have all the techniques you need. And if finding antiderivatives really isn't your thing, then you can still come along to watch students forget to include +C and cheer on your peers.

No sign up necessary! As always, there will be free pizza afterwards for all participants and spectators.

Come along to Lawn Bowls this semester! As always, for the second semester we combine the lawn bowls with our annual general meeting. There will be complementary food and drinks, complementary lawn bowling, and you can even have some complementary conversations with the other guests.

The event starts at 4pm at Graceville bowls club. A group of us will be taking public transport from UQ campus, so feel free to join us then or meet at the club.

Hello again everyone! After last fortnight's double feature, we return to our regular allotment of two distinct speakers for this weeks maths talks. The first of these two is Michael Murray, dishing us "A Mathematical Salad". Next we have Lucas Sobolev, bringing us all back to some familiar childhood concepts with "Becoming a Child Again: A Functorial View of Algebraic Geometry".

Come and join us at 4pm in 67-442 on Friday! As always, there will be pizza afterwards!

Brainteaser Battle is a team-based puzzle competition where youโ€™ll collaborate to solve challenges that blend reasoning and out-of-the-box thinking. More challenging than your typical sudoku, and more fun than your typical math problem set. This event is open to all majors with any level of puzzle experience.

Deadline to apply: Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 at 11:59pm HKT

This October, Jane Street is excited to host our First-year Trading and Technology Program (FTTP). We are inviting current first-year undergraduates to learn more about what we do and how we do it through a series of talks, games, activities, and events.

This is an incredible opportunity for first-year students planning to study math, physics, computer science, or other STEM-related majors. No prior knowledge of finance is necessary โ€” if you like solving problems, have a curious mind, and want to see what a career at Jane Street might look like โ€” this program is for you.

Attendees will arrive in Hong Kong on September 30th and depart on October 3rd. Jane Street will cover all travel expenses to and from Hong Kong, including housing and meals.

Interested in attending FTTP? See the link in our highlights/discord!

Come along to the last maths talks of the semester! This week, we have Gabe Field talking about "The Quantum Fourier Transform", and Rhea Wolski presenting their piece: "Maths as Art".

These talks are on Friday the 22nd of May, at 4pm in room 67 - 442 as usual. Not as usual however, the pizza will be at RedRoom instead of the normal courtyard area. This is, of course, because these talks directly precede this semesters W**e and Reddo! (Tickets still avaliable, and only $5)

Distinguished UQMSS members should note that since RedRoom is an 18+ establishment, they will need a government issued ID to enter (and hence to acquire pizza). However, members will not need a W**e and Reddo ticket to come to RedRoom and have the pizza, but will need a ticket to be able to use the bar tab.

Address

Priestley Building 67
Brisbane, QLD
