Fantasy Guest List!

This week the team played Fantasy Guest List. Which fictional characters would we invite to be our Guests of Honour, Special Guests, or featured panelists, in which capacity and why.

Toast Master Auntie Entity will be performing at the Opening Ceremonies.

Guest Wayfinder Chieftess Moana offers you all the guidance you need to making your own craft and sailing from your home to the convention.

Philosophy Guest of Honour Bruce from the University of Woolloomooloo Philosophy Department will be leading a theoretical discussion on the Meaning of Life.

Academic Guest of Honour Arch Chancellor Bill Rincewind of Bugarup University will be delivering his paper โ€˜Higher on the Inside than the Outside; the philosophy of magical architecture.โ€™ Location: the corner tower.

Road Warrior Guest of Honour "Mad" Max Rockatansky (still Mad). Guest of Honour Talk, โ€˜Wandering through the wastelands and the warlords I defeated.โ€™

Guest of Honour Imperator Furiosa will discuss how to build and drive your own War Rig. Please bring your own welding equipment.

We are delighted to welcome from Ocean Girl, Science Guest of Honour, Marine Biologist Neri who will introduce us to the conservation efforts of Oceanic Research Centre of Australia. Sadly, Charlie the Whale is an apology because we donโ€™t have a tank big enough for him.

Celestial Guest of Honour "Dishmaster" Cliff Buxton, Director of the Parkes Observatory. His story can be be watched in the movie, The Dish, but there is also a discussion of the real story here: https://www.theguardian.com/film/features/featurepages/0,,496701,00.html

From Farscape we are delighted to welcome Space Guests of Honour Peacekeeper Aeryn Sun and Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan, Delvian Priestess. Moya the Leviathan was scheduled to deliver a talk on celestial navigation with Chieftess Moana, but is an apology due to lack of parking space.

Time Travel Specialist Tegan Jovanka is regrettably delayed at Heathrow Airport. The Doctor promises they will arrive yesterday once the TARDISโ€™s navigation system is fixed

The Flying Purple People Eater will be doing a Highlighted panel on Australian Road Safety. Attendees of Furiosaโ€™s workshop are required to attend.

Marsupial Guest of Honour Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, along with special guest marsupials, Blinky Bill and Nutsy, will be hosting a panel on Australian wildlife.

Digger the Wombat will be moderating a panel on responsible mining and archaeology. She requests that everyone bring their own pickaxe.

Taking time off from patrolling in their jaeger, Striker Eureka, Herc and Chuck Hansen will be leading the workshop โ€œHow To Perfect An Australian Accent While Also Kicking Kaiju Butt.โ€ Max the bulldog will be available for pets and belly rubs during the workshop.

Special Guest Knuckles the Echidna comes to us from Angel Island and has taken time off from guarding the Master Emerald to attend the convention.

Aunty Jack has signed on for Convention Security and promises that if you violate the Code of Conduct she will โ€œrip yer bloody arms off!"

And the Dr William Weir Memorial Lecture will be presented by Dr Alan Grant and is titled โ€œMy Brilliant Career: Velociraptors, Magic, and Norse Mythology.โ€

.

Also featuring Sam Neill, who plays the director of the radio telescope, The Dish traces the improbably crucial role of the sleepy satellite town of Parkes in the 1969 moon landing: Parkes' radio telescope was responsible for beaming TV pictures of Neil Armstrong's moonwalk around the world.

We are very sad to hear of the death of Robin Johnson, in Ballarat on 6th July. Robin Johnson was the fan who led the team that bid for and hosted Aussiecon, Australia's first World Science Fiction Convention, in 1975. https://fancyclopedia.org/wiki/Robin_Johnson

SPECIAL NOTICE

As of yesterday, ConTroll made us aware that they had patched a vulnerability within their system on 1 April 2026.

The vulnerability would allow someone to get access to someone else's data through their own user account, and since the only people with user accounts at that time were a few of us on the committee, no one else was at risk.

We have no evidence that the information in our Registration system was accessed, or that a data breach occurred. Payment information is not stored within ConTroll.

The vulnerability has been eliminated, and there are no ongoing risks to private information.

Brisbane In 28 has contacted all members currently stored in our registration system and/or our mailing list.

Please donโ€™t hesitate to reach out to [email protected] with any further questions.

Weโ€™ve tried a couple of different filaments (Panchroma translucent rainbow gradient & tricolor silk) to get rainbow koalas, but results are mixed. Do any of you have a better filament recommendation to get a true rainbow gradient on ? Drop your suggestions in the comments.
