Hello friends and supporters of Brisbane Coast Guard.

Our transition to join Marine Rescue Queensland is well underway and we are expected to become "MRQ Manly" this month.

We congratulate our sister flotilla QF7 Redland Bay who became MRQ Redland Bay recently.

Our call sign will change, and the signage on our boats and base will change but our volunteers are still focused on our mission of saving life on the water and helping the boaters of South East Queensland.

Once transition has occurred we will be sure to let you know. Stay tuned to this page and follow Marine Rescue Queensland for all the news.

The transition of Coast Guard flotillas to Marine Rescue Queensland has started, with our sister unit QF7 at Redland Bay the first to move to MRQ.

It is a big moment for QF7, for AVCGA and, most importantly, for the volunteers who have spent so many years looking after Queensland’s boating community. For more than 60 years, the yellow vessels and dedicated volunteers of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard have been part of Queensland’s waterways.

For the Coast Guard volunteers, the heart of what we do really doesn’t change. We will still be volunteers helping people on the water. We will continue responding to marine incidents, conducting search and rescue, assisting vessels and boaties in trouble, promoting boating safety and supporting their
local community, now as part of a statewide MRQ network.

QF2's transition is scheduled to occur in a few weeks, so look out for additional news on our move from Coast Guard Brisbane to Marine Rescue Manly.

We recommend all Jetski users get tow taps fitted so that if you need a tow, you can be towed on the plane at speed.

If you don't have one and you're lucky, your local Marine Rescue unit might have a craft raft. This useful piece of kit enables us to tow your ski back faster than 5 knots which we would otherwise.

Today we only had to come back from St Helena to Manly, but it was still nice to have and made the tow quick and painless.

Thanks to our volunteers spending their Ekka public holiday keeping Moreton Bay safe.

Coast Guard Brisbane welcomed our newest vessel to our fleet today. CG25 Allan Tennent was officially commissioned at a ceremony today at our station.

This vessel was purchased with funds raised locally by volunteers and joins the Coast Guard fleet weeks before our impending transition to Marine Rescue Queensland.

Our unit and its members have recognised the decades long commitment of Allan Tennent OAM - a Life Member of the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association, and proud member of Coast Guard Brisbane. We could not be prouder to carry the name of a mentor, skipper, leader and friend with us into the future.

We extend our thanks to Kara Cook MP, Joan Pease MP and Councillor Alex Givney for attending, as well as our AVCGA National Commodore Matt Semmens who represented our Association. Thanks to MRQ Chief Officer Tony Wulff for his attendance.

We sincerely thank Police Chaplain Artie Shepherd who blessed the vessel and the volunteers who will crew her. His speech and prayer touched our members and we appreciate his kind words and recognition of the tough work we are sometimes called to do.

Coast Guard Brisbane took part in a significant SAR operation for multiple days over the weekend and start of the week.

We had three vessels tasked Saturday, two on Sunday and another on Monday and Tuesday.

Thanks to all our volunteers who assisted in this operation.

The search for a missing 49-year-old Coochiemudlo Island man, whose unoccupied fishing vessel was located in Toondah Harbour on 10 July, has been suspended following a large-scale five-day search.

Police continue to appeal to anyone with information regarding the man’s location or welfare to come forward.

Please see the following joint announcement by the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association and Marine Rescue Queensland.

Today marks the beginning of a new journey for Coast Guard Brisbane who will soon begin the transition to become Marine Rescue Queensland Manly.

Our 50+ years of service as a Marine Rescue unit will continue under new branding and new coloured shirts.

We will continue with our passion of serving the boating community of South East Queensland and our mission of saving life at sea.

We recognise and thank the AVCGA National Board for the extraordinary work done behind the scenes to reach an agreement with the Queensland Government that meets our legal obligations and results in the best possible outcome for both our volunteers and the boating community.

Strong Wind Warning released for today and this weekend.

Please take all precautions to ready your boat for potentially nasty weather over the weekend. If you have PWC such as kayaks etc then please ensure they are secure and identified with your contact details.

Might be a good idea to secure loose items and double line if you're moored.
