Christmas in July Celebrates 51,000-Item Milestone for Cooroy Uniforms 4 Kids Volunteers! 🎅🎄🎁✂️🧵🪡
More than 51,000 handmade items have been lovingly created for children in need by the dedicated volunteers of the Uniforms4Kids Cooroy group—a remarkable achievement celebrated during their annual Christmas in July luncheon at Palm Lake Resort.
The milestone reflects 8 years of commitment from local women who meet regularly to transform donated uniforms from police, emergency services and other organisations into children's clothing, quilts, toys and other essential items for vulnerable children.
The festive gathering was an opportunity to recognise the volunteers' outstanding contribution while enjoying good food, friendship and a Secret Santa gift exchange.
Group coordinator Yvonne Pattinson said the achievement belonged to every volunteer who had given their time and skills to the project over the years.
"Every item we make represents care, kindness and hope for a child who needs it," she said. "Reaching 51,000 items is an incredible milestone, and it's only possible because of the generosity, friendship and dedication of our wonderful volunteers."
The Cooroy group recycles donated uniforms from organisations including the Queensland Police Service, Australian Federal Police, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), NSW SES, Australia Zoo, Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and other emergency services. The finished items are returned to those organisations for distribution to children and families in need throughout local communities, across Australia and overseas.
Uniforms 4 Kids began in Cooroy and has grown into a remarkable charity, with volunteer sewing groups now operating across much of Australia.
For the Cooroy ladies, the rewards extend far beyond sewing. They have found friendship, learned new skills, shared many happy hours together and, most importantly, gained the satisfaction of knowing they are making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need.
While the Christmas in July celebration was filled with festive fun and laughter, it also recognised the lasting impact the volunteers continue to have on the lives of thousands of children.
New members are always welcome to join the Cooroy Uniforms 4 Kids group, whether they enjoy sewing or would simply like to help. Every volunteer plays a part in ensuring more children receive handmade items created with care and compassion.
