🖼️ The 2026 Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize is currently on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery! Visit today to see artwork such as Patrick Street - Milton by Miriam Innes.

Miriam says on her own artwork, "Patrick Street – Milton reflects my ongoing interest in the quiet architectural details and lived histories embedded within suburban landscapes. Through drawing, I am drawn to places that may appear ordinary or overlooked, yet hold strong traces of memory, transition and community identity.
This work documents a streetscape in Milton, the elevated Queenslander forms, layered vegetation, powerlines, and narrow residential passages characteristic of Brisbane’s inner suburbs. These environments tell stories of adaptation, of homes responding to climate, flood and the changing nature of the city itself. The drawing becomes both a record and a reflection on how Brisbane continues to evolve while retaining fragments of its past.
My connection to Brisbane is grounded in observation and familiarity. Living and working in Queensland, I spend significant time walking, sketching, photographing and studying urban and regional environments. Through tonal drawing and detailed mark-making, I aim to slow down the act of looking and encourage viewers to reconsider the significance of everyday spaces within the city.
Rather than depicting iconic landmarks, my practice focuses on the quieter edges of Brisbane, the residential streets, ageing structures and subtle architectural rhythms that shape collective memory and local identity. Through this process, the work becomes a meditation on place, belonging and a visual language which is unique to Greater Brisbane."

As a part of the exhibition, we are also hosting an ART TALKS event this Sunday, 23rd of August at 2pm, where Mostyn Bramely-Moore (One of the judges for this exhibition) will be speaking about his art practice and art schools. Currently on show in the Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize are artworks such as St Philip's Church, With Mother and Child by David Wells 🎨🖌️

David says on his own work, "Although not personally religious, I’m drawn to sacred spaces within everyday life. St Philip’s Church, a landmark I pass daily, becomes both subject and symbol. The lines in the work function as a deconstruction of the church gate, suggesting thresholds—between public and private, physical and spiritual. The mother and child reflect my own family within the community, while also echoing traditional religious imagery, bridging the personal and the symbolic."

This artwork, along with many other artistic representations of Brisbane are on show at Petrie Terrace Gallery until Sunday, 13th of September.

We are also hosting out ART TALKS event on Sunday, 23rd of August, where QWBAP judge Mostyn Bramley-Moore will be the speaker. To hear more about this judge, please visit rqas.com.au to book your ticket!

Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize! Pictured here is one of the Special Mention artworks, Preservation and Progress by Dylan Jones. Please scroll down to see the comments from our judges.

The judges admired the courageous ex*****on of this painting. In its most effective passages, a rapidly applied impasto helps build a densely coherent surface, one which echoes the architectonic nature of the subject itself. Form and message also cohere in fluid, mobile gestures appropriate to the restless movement of transport networks. A highly resolved work which embodies the dynamism and flux of the contemporary city.

Make sure to visit Petrie Terrace Gallery soon, where you can see this amazing artwork in person, as well as all of the other finalists in the Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize! On show until Sunday, 13th of September.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2026 Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize! Pictured here is one of the Special Mention artworks, Millions of Miles from the Madness by Gabi Mika-Mcnaughton. Please scroll down to see the comments from our judges.

The task this artist faced of penetrating the motif, of bringing a pictorial coherence to a dense thicket of tree trunks, vegetation and undergrowth here finds its equivalent in the subject itself: a fallen limb blocks our path, and twigs threaten to catch in our clothes. The artist has succeeded admirably in making sense of it all, not least of all through a sensitive rendition of the cool, all-pervading midday light. In a refreshingly matter of fact way, an otherwise unremarkable corner of local bushland has been transformed into an engaging design, one which ultimately suggests a self-contained world of peace and reflection.

Make sure to visit Petrie Terrace Gallery soon, where you can see this amazing artwork in person, as well as all of the other finalists in the Queen's Wharf Brisbane Art Prize! On show until Sunday, 13th of September.
