✨ The wait is over — the Audrey Gibbs Art Prize is now on show at RQAS Brisbane Gallery 🎨

Come and immerse yourself in a stunning showcase of artistic talent, which explore the theme of Genre Painting.
Genre painting/artworks are those that depict ordinary people in everyday situations, both in the exterior and the interior. Rather than heroic or mythological subjects, these works celebrate the familiar: everyday people participating in domestic routines, work, leisure, social gatherings, and quiet moments of daily life. Spanning centuries, the show highlights how artists have found beauty, humour, and meaning in the ordinary, offering intimate windows into human experience and social history 🖼️💫

With only 3 months left of the year, now is the perfect time to get started on your 2027 artworks! For the first exhibition of the year, entries are now open for Objects of Affection.

This exhibition explores the quiet power of still life and inanimate objects — the everyday things we surround ourselves with, and the deep sentimental meanings we assign to them. From a worn chair that holds family history to a simple cup that carries the memory of a loved one, these works examine how objects become vessels of emotion, memory, and intimacy.

Artists are invited to submit artworks in their own choice of media including both 2D and 3D works.
This exhibition is not judged. People’s Choice will be awarded at the end of the Exhibition with the winner receiving a free Membership to RQAS Brisbane Branch for 12 months.

Join us at RQAS Brisbane Gallery this Sunday, 18th October from 10:30am for "Beyond The Gilded Frame: Portraits of Colonial Childhood", presented by Professor Elisabeth Findlay. ⁠
⁠
Elisabeth is a Professor of Art Theory at the Queensland College of Art and Design, Griffith University. She has held senior academic leadership positions at both Griffith University and The Australian National University. From 2020 to 2023 she was the first female Director of Queensland College of Art and Design and previously was an Associate Dean (Student Experience) in the College of Arts and Social Sciences at The Australian National University. She has extensive experience in international engagement and in 2019 was appointed as a Visiting Fellow at Shandong University of the Arts. Elisabeth is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Elisabeth lectures in the history of Australian art and theories of portraiture. She has received numerous teaching awards, including a national citation for her outstanding contribution to student learning and she is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her research focuses on issues of identity, race, gender, class and nationalism in Australian visual culture. She has curated several exhibitions on early Australian colonial art. Elisabeth is currently completing the book publication 'Portraiture in Colonial Australia: Picturing the Nation' (under contract with Routledge).

Paradise Palette Art Institute is proud to present Pasifik Horizon, a landmark exhibition bringing together leading artists from Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia in a vibrant celebration of Pacific creativity, identity, and cultural exchange. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, 28th of October to Sunday, 8th of November 2026 at RQAS Brisbane Gallery.

Featuring works by Apa Hugo and Clement Koys (Papua New Guinea) and Stéphane Foucaud (New Caledonia), Pasifik Horizon showcases the dynamic artistic voices shaping contemporary Melanesian and Francophone Pacific art.

Visitors are also welcome to attend the official opening event on Thursday, 29th of October, 6pm-8:30pm at RQAS Brisbane Gallery. This is a free event, we look forward to seeing you at the gallery!

"Our next commended work is a lovely example of the brief, telling the audience a story while being technically superb. Grouping figures in an artwork can be very difficult but in this work it has been done very successfully in a way that shows the enormous amount of skill demonstrated.
