Paul Gaskill sadly passed away in 2025 following a tragic accident. But his memory and legacy will live on for decades to come, in two countries, thanks to his family and friends establishing a trust in his honour.
The trust has chosen the PA, where Paul was cared for so well following his accident) as one of four charitable organisations to support in Paul's name.
Among other endeavours to support PA Hospital patients and staff the Paul Gaskill Charitable Trust is working to ensure palliative care patients are never alone through special bracelets that have a deep meaning and connection for Paul's family. Read the full story in the link in the comments.

Next month we will celebrate 20 years of getting around Adam Smiddy via the Smiddy Fun Run. Adam was a beloved physiotherapist and colleague at PA Hospital with a love of triathlon and running, who sadly passed away as a result of an aggressive melanoma diagnosis in 2006. Ever since friends of Adam have partnered with the Foundation to stage a fun run on the PA Hospital Campus to raise funds for melanoma and skin cancer research on the PA Hospital campus. This year the 5km run will be five laps around the Translational Research Institute building.

When Gemma (pictured) was treated for HER-2 positive breast cancer at the PA Hospital, research stopped being something that happened somewhere else.

It became hope. Real, practical hope, sitting right there on the same campus as her care.

Professor Fiona Simpson (pictured) and her team, researchers working alongside clinicians at the PA Hospital campus, are working towards a clinical trial that could offer new treatment options for women with similar diagnoses. That's the kind of work our breast cancer campaign Project Pink exists to back, along with patient support projects that help people live well during and after their treatment.

And this October, 23 locally owned Stellarossa cafes across Queensland are raising funds for it. Your morning flat white, the barista who knows your name, the regulars you nod to at the counter. All of it counts this month.

We're immensely proud to work with Stellarossa and so grateful for their choice to raise funds for Project Pink.

The PA Hospital cares for patients from right across Queensland and even Northern NSW. Patients like Pam Smith who lives hours away in the small Queensland town of Cooyar.
When Pam was treated for a brain aneurysm by the neurosurgery teams at the PA, the care she received was so first class that she says if she or husband Ray ever need surgery again that they wouldn't hesitate to drive the three plus hours to Brisbane to be treated at the PA.
