Calling young Pacific people in Magan-djin (Brisbane) 🌊🐚✨

The climate movement needs Pacific voices—and we’re creating space to build the knowledge, skills, connections and confidence to take those voices from community to the global stage.

With support from PLAN and the Feminist Climate Collective, Future Ancestors is excited to launch the Future Ancestors Amazing Race: Climate Edition!

Get your team of 5 together and race across Brisbane through fun, interactive challenges inspired by climate justice, Pacific knowledge, leadership and global climate spaces. Solve puzzles, uncover clues, connect local action to global change—and compete for $500 worth of prizes!

More than a race, this is an opportunity to:
🌱 Deepen your understanding of climate justice
🤝🏽 Build community and new friendships
💡 Strengthen leadership and organising skills
🌏 Explore how Pacific voices can shape national and international climate conversations
🔥 Build confidence for the road to COP31

Key dates:
📅 Online Briefing: Mid-September 2026 (1 hour)
🏃🏽 Challenge Day: Saturday, 24 October 2026 (full day)

Who can apply?
🌺 Pacific Island background
🎂 Aged 18–35 years
📍 Living in Magan-djin (Brisbane) and surrounds
👥 Teams of 5, including at least 1 Future Ancestors alumnae
💪🏽 Able to commit to the full program

Paper Portrait Crafternoon ✂️🌺

One week ago, we held a special Crafternoon workshop in collaboration with Future Ancestors and the talented Jaelyn Biumaiwai | Digital Illustrator 🌺🌴 🌺

We had the pleasure of celebrating Jaelyn Biumaiwai | Digital Illustrator 🌺🌴’ Artist Corner at Helensvale Library, while bringing together a few community members for a Draw Yourself self-portrait workshop - part of an exciting bigger project Jaelyn has been working on! 🎨✨

If you haven’t already make sure to head down to Helensvale Library to check out the Artist Corner (you’ll be able to spot a few familiar faces from our MATAGI video or colouring-in book 👀)!

A special acknowledgment to our Future Ancestors who graced the stage at the recent Pasifika Women’s Alliance Inc. Pasifika Community Cultural Day! 🌊

🐚 Keren Hou as both MC and cultural dancer - showcasing beautiful dances from the Solomon Islands 🇸🇧 alongside her peers from Griffith Pasifika Association.

🐚 Jaelyn Biumaiwai also shared cultural dance alongside her sisters from MATANA 🇫🇯. Pre show, Jaelyn also facilitated a kids art space under her creative business - Jaelyn Biumaiwai | Digital Illustrator 🌺🌴

Every time a young person steps into a community space, they help keep culture, stories, and connections strong. Their presence and willingness to be involved is what makes community. ✨

The ancestors' call is not just heard but felt across oceans - it echoes through the beat of our drums, the husking of our coconuts, the paddles of canoes and between the palms of our elders' prayers.

The ancestors call is a call to action, a call to serve and a call to amplify the power of community. Equipped with the cultural teachings of the past and our unique experiences in the present, our future ancestors mark our conch with their fingerprints - a continued legacy of shared responsibility grounded in culture, identity and community.
