13 February 2025 - Media Statement
Australian Hazara Community Organisations Strongly Condemn Antisemitic Comments and Offer to Support Social Cohesion.
We, the undersigned Hazara community organisations from across Australia, strongly condemn the reported antisemitic comment made by two nurses in NSW as well as any and all forms of violence and extremism.
The alleged threats against Australian Jewish patients are abhorrent and violate the fundamental principles of healthcare, which dictate that all individuals,
regardless of background, deserve compassionate and equitable treatment.
These comments are deeply disturbing and fly in the face of everything we stand for as a community.
We believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every human being, regardless of their ethnicity or religion.
We are particularly saddened to learn that one of the nurses involved is reportedly has come from Afghanistan at a young age.
While we understand that individuals are responsible for their own actions, we want to emphasise that these views do not reflect the values of diaspora
communities from Afghanistan.
The diverse diaspora communities from Afghanistan have themselves experienced significant persecution and understand the pain and suffering caused
by discrimination and hatred. “Our community has always valued inclusivity and understanding. This incident does not represent who we are,” the spokesperson added.
We stand in solidarity with the NSW health workers and patients who may have been impacted by the action of these two nurses.
We believe that open dialogue and education are crucial in combating prejudice and promoting social cohesion. We stand ready to engage in ongoing
conversations with diverse social groups to help bridge divides, dispel misinformation, and promote empathy.
“We believe that dialogue can be a powerful tool for healing and understanding, and we are ready to facilitate that process,” the spokesperson stated.
We urge all community members to reject hatred and embrace tolerance.
We reiterate our commitment to promoting peace, understanding, and respect for all.
