South Queensland Sabot Association Sabot Sailing - Information on Regatta's, our sailors, results and fun events.

The South Queensland Sabot Association (SQSA) represents the Sabot sailing dinghy class from Southport to Yeppoon. Members include sailors, parents and clubs who are enthusiastic participants in Sabot sailing. For 50 years young Australian sailors have been introduced to the sport and social benefits of sailing at club, regional, state and national levels in Sabot sailing dinghies. The SQSA's goal

is to offer a fun and family-friendly environment that builds confident young sailors on a race course, and fosters a lifelong interest in the sport of sailing.

Last weekend, five SQSA sailors headed to Coffs Harbour for the Sprint Series—and what a great weekend it was!

Saturday delivered strong winds that really tested skills, while Sunday brought shifting conditions that kept everyone guessing on wind movements. In the end, the final race had to be abandoned as the wind became too unpredictable.

A huge congratulations to our own Archer Newton for taking out the overall win—a great result!

Well done to all sailors who competed and represented SQSA so well.

It doesn’t get much closer than this! ⛵️🏁

Race 4 on Sunday morning of the Easter Regatta delivered a very exciting finish — the first five boats crossed the line within just 5 seconds of each other.
Exhilarating, intense, and just a little bit stressful for the start boat!

What a fantastic way to wrap up the 2025/26 sailing season at the Easter Regatta in Hervey Bay! ⛵🌊

While not an official SQSA event, it always attracts a great turnout and this year was no exception.

It was a windy weekend that really tested everyone on the water, especially our Green Fleet and less experienced sailors — but they showed great determination and resilience.

Sunday brought a change of plans due to strong winds, with the fleet brought in closer to shore for two sprint races.

The results for the Open Fleet were close:

Line honours
🥇 Archer
🥈 Harrison
🥉 Addison

Handicap results
🥇 Archer
🥈 Addison
🥉 Harrison

Green fleet
🥇Leo

A brilliant regatta to finish the season — well done to all sailors who took part! 👏

Over the last 2 weekends of March we held the SQSA River Titles - a bit later in the season than in previous years. It was a small fleet of young sailors who successsfully navigated all the river has to offer - strong currents, shifting wind and of course, River Cats.
Green fleet - Maxime Breton who received the Bill Thorburn Shield
Handicap - Patrick Spry-Bailey who received the Fred McCartney Perpetual Trophy
Open fleet - Harrison Duignan who received the AS Hybers Memorial Trophy
