The NDIA is considering significant changes to how Support Coordination and Specialist Support Coordination may be delivered in the future. At Community Living Association, we support improvements to quality, consistency and accountability, but we believe reforms must not come at the cost of choice, control, trusted relationships, local knowledge and specialist expertise.
As part of our submission, we spoke with NDIS participants, families and supporters. What we heard was clear:
✅ 21 out of 22 respondents valued having the same trusted worker who knows them well.
✅ 20 out of 22 were worried about losing their current Support Coordinator.
✅ 18 out of 22 were concerned about having to explain their needs all over again.
✅ 17 out of 22 were worried about losing choice and control.
CLA's response calls for a mixed funding, consortium-based, multi-provider model that protects participant choice, allows people to keep trusted relationships where possible, preserves specialist and community-based providers, and ensures support remains person-centred and locally connected.
❤️ People told us that Support Coordination is more than administration. It is built on trust, relationships, advocacy, problem-solving, and helping people navigate complex systems with confidence.
