🌿 Happy World Environment Day 2026! 🌿
Today, we celebrate the power of people and communities coming together to protect and care for our environment. This year’s theme highlights the importance of climate action and working with nature to secure a sustainable future.
At CLA, our Skilling Queenslanders for Work trainees completing their Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management are living this message every day. Through hands-on learning, they are developing practical skills that support environmental protection, conservation, and healthier natural spaces for our community.
From restoring ecosystems to learning sustainable land management practices, our trainees are building real-world skills while making a meaningful difference. Programs like this not only strengthen environmental outcomes but also empower participants with the confidence and experience to move forward into employment and further training.
🌱 Today we acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our trainees as they contribute to protecting our environment—because every action counts.
This Skilling Queenslanders for Work project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government.

Congratulations to the Good Food trainees from our SQW program on completing their Certificate II in Cookery classroom sessions last Friday!

They celebrated with a special gathering where everyone brought a traditional dish from their home country—sharing delicious food, stories, and even some dancing.

It’s wonderful to see how the group has come together to support one another throughout the program.

While classes have wrapped up, some participants will now complete their work placements and final assessments. Wishing them well as they put what they have learned in the classroom into action! 🧑‍🍳 🥘 🤩

Our Community Connections Team collaborated with Northside Connect and the Noonga Reconciliation Group to deliver a powerful and community-filled Sorry Day Gathering at Kalinga Park last Friday.

Despite last-minute changes due to wet weather, the spirit of the day shone through—something warmly acknowledged by Aunty Ruth Hegarty, Uncle Alex Davidson and Aunty Sharron mirii Bell.

👏 A special congratulations to Taurean Lea for his role as Co-Emcee. It’s inspiring to see your ongoing leadership and respect for culture.

🙌 We’d also like to recognise the Skilling Queenslanders for Work team and participants for their support with equipment and set-up, along with all CLA workers who contributed on the day—whether behind the scenes or as part of the crowd.

Events like this create ripples of culture, respect, healing, and shared learning in our community. Through Truth Telling, we strengthen relationships with schools, workers, systems, and local Mob—creating opportunities that wouldn’t be possible alone.

We are proud that CLA continues to hold space for this important work. 🖤💛❤️

Great to welcome MP Di Farmer onsite today to visit our CLA Skilling Queenslanders for Work trainees alongside the incredible team at the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee.

It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the hands-on work our trainees are undertaking, building practical skills while contributing to meaningful environmental and community projects. From bush regeneration to site maintenance, the impact of this program is clear, not just for the local environment, but for the confidence, capability, and future pathways of participants.

A big thank you to our partners at Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee for their ongoing support and collaboration in delivering real-world training experiences.

Join us this June for the Jumble Sale!

1. What you will find: Clothes & accessories, plants & art, books & DVDs, crockery & bric-a-brac, toys & kids items, retro finds, odds & ends, and unexpected treasures.

2. When and where: Join us at Wavell Heights Community Hall, 76 Cressey Street, Wavell Heights, on 27 June 2026 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

3. Volunteer: Help out with a 1–2 hour shift, or whatever you can manage. Tasks are simple—set-up, welcoming, and packing down. No experience is needed.

4. Stall holders: Run a stall with 1 table of your own or share with a friend. It’s indoors and weather-proof, set-up help is available, and there’s no pressure—just do what you can. You can sell pre-loved goods, handmade items, plants, books, small collections, and other odds & ends. If it fits on a table, it’s welcome. First-time stallholders can try it free, and returning stallholders are $15. Running a stall helps keep the hall active, welcoming, and affordable for local groups and neighbours.

5. Toy donations welcome: We’d love LEGO (complete or mixed tubs), Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars, puzzles with all pieces, action figures, stuffed toys, and play kitchen items.

6. Interested or just curious? Have a chat with Morrie O'Connor on 0407 914 454.
