Coming soon! We'll be holding monthly Sunday afternoon creative fundraising events. These Stitch n Witch afternoons will be a safe, social space for everyone in our community, to connect, learn and share new crafting and creative skills.

Materials will be provided and BYO crafting ideas and materials are also welcome.

Did you know that to fund our services to be accessible and free, we do community fundraising events?

Previously, we have held creative workshops, music events and community markets to not only raise awareness, but raise funds for our unique support and services.

We will soon be organising and holding monthly community workshops and events, such as Stitch & Witch - Creative Groups, Trivia Nights and Sunday Afternoon Sessions - family inclusive social events.

As we're all getting ready for the Christmas and New Year periods, to spend time with family and friends and celebrate the passing of a year and looking forward to another, keep in mind that not everyone has the freedom or safety to do so.

This time of year can be increase isolation from family and friends and further any covert abuse. This can also be a dangerous time when there is an increase in alcohol and drug consumption, the stressors of family dynamics, impacts of mental health issues, time off work, extra travel and financial stress and more.

As a community, we can support our friends, family and neighbours during this time to ease the impacts of abuse and violence during the holiday season. Check in on your friends, family and neighbours, and be the safe person they can talk to and go to if needed.

When we bring our awareness and care of self and others to the forefront, we can all create the change that is needed to reduce the impacts of abuse and violence in our community.

Look out for and take care of each other.

Discussion of Domestic and Family Violence. **

Today Amity Place is launching our 2023 Christmas and New Year fundraising and awareness campaign, to continue our significant work in the community, and reduce relational abuse and violence in the community during this time and beyond.

As a social enterprise, Amity Place is currently not eligible for government grants (but we will be applying for not for profit / DGR status soon!).

To sustain our work as free and accessible for everyone, we work behind the scenes with fundraising workshops, events and campaigns. All funds go toward supporting our professional counsellors and therapists, all with a lived-experience, to do their work and toward personalised needs or purchases for clients.

With the Christmas and New Year season ahead, as well at the ongoing stressors of Covid-19, the cost of living and the housing crisis, as well as the ongoing impacts of recent natural disasters, not to mention the ongoing trauma and displacement of war overseas - there is a lot that impacts our wellbeing and ability to cope individually and collectively.

The outcome of major stress events, and trauma impacts our mental health, financial and social health, relationships, and more. The flow on affects, can result in relational impacts and abuse and further trauma.

We're reaching out to our community today, to support Amity Place with our work - to reduce the impacts of individual and relational stressors that can lead to mental health issues, abuse and violence, su***de, substance abuse and addictions and ongoing trauma - by supporting people in our community on their journey of healing, empowerment and positive change.

We're seeking community support to assist families and individuals impacted by domestic and family violence.

Our aim is to support everyone impacted by all forms of relational abuse and violence with peer support, professional counselling, therapeutic services, advocacy and awareness with a free, accessible and person-centred approach.

To do our work, we raise funds from community events and workshops and from business sponsorship and community donations.

If you're a business and would like to become a sponsor or could donate items, or if you're a community group, a family or a bunch of friends keen to support a real, grass-roots approach to supporting people in your community, please contact us to discuss ways in which you can be involved.

This time of year can be stressful, lonely, depleting and dangerous for many people, especially when there is a dynamic of domestic or intimate partner violence. Not everyone can relax and enjoy this holiday and Christmas season. Not everyone is emotionally of physically safe.

Please be aware that this time of year heightens the stress-load in many people's lives. Increased stress, family pressures or dysfunctional dynamics, financial stress and other factors, can become a sense of overwhelm and activate abusive behaviours more so than normal.

This time of year isn't happy or merry for people impacted by abuse and violent relationships and most services are closed during this time, so accessing support is limited.

Please be mindful and aware of your friends, neighbours and families who may be displaying increased distress, overwhelm, increased drinking or out of character behaviour, including withdrawal and isolation.

We can all play a part in creating connection, care and creation of wellbeing for our community by being a support for those who are struggling. Be open to listening and providing kindness and support in the way that is comfortable for you.

It all helps to make a difference to those experiencing abusive and violence and struggling with the holiday and Christmas time of year.
