Carers, your voice is needed! 📢 The Queensland Carers (Recognition) Act 2008 is being reviewed, and this is a real opportunity to shape how carers are recognised, included and supported in decisions that affect them.

Arafmi is putting together a response, and we want it to reflect what carers are actually experiencing. The survey takes no more than 10 minutes. Answer as much or as little as you like — make yourself a cuppa, find a quiet moment, and tell us what you think.

Today we had a great time at Seniors & Grandparents Empowerment Day, sharing about the power of support groups with Logan Dementia Alliance and World Wellness Group. We hope that the info and chats helped seniors and grandparents feel connected, have fun and feel more supported – and wow look at the line dancers go!

Thank you Adele and everyone involved at Unity Hub Community Centre for bringing us all together!

Congratulations to Tahani & Rose on an empowering community experience with women of Sisters Support & Bint Al Neel ~ in Rose's words: "We are incredibly proud and grateful to have hosted our first Multicultural Women’s Bazaar—a vibrant celebration of culture, entrepreneurship, and community.

Today's National Sorry Day is about going From Sorry to Action. The call from survivors of Stolen Generations and their communities is clear - we must move from words to action, to support healing and justice.

We are taking this opportunity today on 26 May National Sorry Day and beyond, to learn about and acknowledge the truth of Australia’s Stolen Generations history and the ongoing, intergenerational impacts caused by past policies of forced removal.

We are reflecting on the role of peer support, trauma-informed care and community, collective healing as part of the call for systems to commit to supporting ongoing truth-telling, healing, and tangible measurable changes for survivors.

As the Healing Foundation says, ‘Acknowledging past harm is important, but acting to address it is critical. Sorry signals compassion, action delivers justice.’

Sisters Support and Bint Al Neel have grown a home base for their community support groups at CHAA Inala Community House. Every week, multicultural mothers group gathers with Rose, Tahani, and Louisa for supportive sessions as part of community healing and empowerment.

When Rose founded Sisters Support, and Tahani launched Bint al Neel, they partnered with us at Support Groups Qld and CHAA at Inala Community House to host group programs such as art therapy, and support everyday access to mental health services, employment, driving, swimming, legal assistance, parenting support, and more.

CHAA (or Community Healing and Accountability), is an initiative of the Inala Community House, who have been strong supporters and partners in these vital, empowering initiatives.

So this , we’re also celebrating Inala Community House who do so much to collaborate with community leaders and support peer-led groups to grow supportive spaces for more healing, empowered and connected communities.

Last week, we celebrated with Logan Dementia Alliance for their 3rd birthday at Bethania Community Centre! They’ve grown such a supportive group and empowering community spirit since we supported them in their early days. Selina, Louisa and our lovely volunteer Aafreen enjoyed the choir's singing, festivities and community gathering hosted at Bethania.

Here’s to another 3 years and beyond for this integral community support group!

Congratulations Rose & Tahani on presenting about Sisters Support and Bint Al Neel community healing initiatives at the Australia and New Zealand Refugee Trauma Recovery in Resettlement Conference (FASSTT)! Rose shared her and Tahani's knowledge and vital leadership for healing in African Refugee communities, and growing their scalable approach of meaningful peer-led healing initiatives with an international network.

In Rose's words: "Honoured to attend and represent...our communities’ needs and interests and inspiring meaningful change.

Grateful to the conference organisers and supporters for creating such an inclusive and impactful space. We also deeply appreciate the support from our colleagues and community that made our participation possible through half scholarship and donations.

It was a valuable opportunity to connect, share, and witness emerging leaders grow in confidence and purpose."
