Local Rights In Action (RIA) Advocates will also be available to offer advocacy support and connect you with local services.

Three years after the Disability Royal Commission released its final report, disability organisations are asking just one question: 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

A new independent report card from a national coalition of disability organisations has assessed progress on 10 key recommendations.

The finding? 𝗡𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱.

𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝘀 – 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆.

The new Thriving Kids program is being rolled out as part of major changes to the NDIS — but Queensland families are still waiting for clarity about what support will be available here.

Alongside People with Disability Australia (PWDA) and Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA), QAI supports the development of strong, accessible foundational supports for children with disability. But transitions of this scale must be properly planned, funded and communicated.

Families should not be left wondering:
👉 What support will my child receive?
👉 When will it be available?
👉 Who will provide it?
👉 What happens if my child's needs change?

Children and families cannot be left in limbo.

PWDA, CYDA and QAI are calling for a clear pathway, transparency and genuine involvement of families and people with disability in the implementation of Thriving Kids in Queensland.

Disturbing accounts from former patients, reported by the ABC, highlight why Queensland urgently needs stronger safeguards for people detained in mental health facilities.

Why are so many Disability Royal Commission recommendations still sitting on the shelf?

Former Disability Royal Commission Commissioner Dr Alastair McEwin AM has a message for governments and policymakers across Australia.

In this video, Dr McEwin reflects on the limited progress made since the Commission he was part of handed down more than 220 recommendations aimed at preventing violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability.

"The recommendations provide a practical and implementable way" to create change. The question is: when will they be acted on?

As Thriving Kids begins rolling out nationally today, Queensland remains the only state or territory without a bilateral agreement for the program.

QIDAN has joined People with Disability Australia (PWDA) and Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA) in calling on the Queensland Government to clearly set out what happens next for Queensland children, families and people with disability.

We’re calling for:
- clarity about what issues remain unresolved
- a clear pathway and timeframe for resolving them
- accessible information for Queensland families
- safeguards to ensure people aren’t left without necessary support
- meaningful involvement of people with disability, families and the disability sector in shaping what comes next.

The joint letter also calls for Queensland to use the evidence already gathered through the disability sector to prepare for the broader rollout of Foundational Supports.

𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄: 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄

Information about changes to NDIS funding for some supports was published last night, with the changes commencing tomorrow, 𝟭 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁:
• 50% cuts to social, economic and community participation (SECP); and
• 10% cuts to daily living skills.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟱𝟬% 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗣:
• supports in employment,
• high intensity supports,
• intensive and complex behaviour supports.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄:
• These reductions will 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻.
• If you receive 24/7 funding in your plan and it is all either high intensity, intensive and complex behaviour supports or supports in employment the SECP cut should not apply to you.
• If you receive 24/7 funding in your plan and you are funded at standard SECP rates, you should apply to the NDIA for recognition as a ‘𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁’.
• If you get 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻, you can still ask for an internal review if the supports in the plan do not meet your needs. This should be considered if you don’t have enough funding for assistance with daily living and have been using your SECP funding for support in the home for self-care.
• After 𝟭 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 if your plan is ‘renewed’ with no changes to the supports, cut will be applied and you will not be able to ask for an internal review of the renewed plan. You will be able to ask for a variation or a reassessment if there have been significant changes to your plan.

🗣 heard from 10,000 people who gave overwhelming evidence of abuse and neglect.

And yet, we've seen very little action to make our country a safer and more inclusive place for people with disability.

We deserve more from our government.
