Australian Clarinet and Saxophone is an organisation devoted to all aspects of clarinet and saxophone performance and teaching.

QCASS is a Not-For-Profit organisation run by volunteer staff to promote and encourage the learning and enjoyment of clarinet and saxophone playing. One of our primary aims is to facilitate collaborative events and support students and teachers in Queensland.

🎷🎶 QCASS Competition 2026 — October 10 & 11!

What better way to celebrate the lasting impact of the QCASS Competition than by hearing from someone who has experienced that community from both sides of the stage?

🌟 Competition Alumni: Isaac Reed

For Isaac, QCASS has been about much more than performing - a place to challenge himself as a musician, receive valuable feedback, and, most importantly, connect with other young musicians on the same journey.

“As a student, performing in the competition was always one of the highlights of my year! It is a great opportunity to extend yourself as a musician, perform for those outside your school community, and gain invaluable feedback before upcoming exams and auditions. There is a great sense of community across the whole weekend, and I loved getting to connect with like-minded peers who were on the same musical journey that I was!”

That sense of community has stayed with Isaac long after his own years as a competitor. 🎶

Today, Isaac is the Treasurer of QCASS and an adjudicator for the competition — helping to create the same welcoming, encouraging and inspiring environment that meant so much to him as a young musician.

From competing on stage, to helping shape the competition behind the scenes, Isaac’s QCASS journey is a wonderful reminder of what makes this event so special: the people.

It’s the friendships formed, the shared love of music, the encouragement between competitors, and the connections that can last long after the final note of the weekend. 💛

We can’t wait to welcome another generation of young clarinettists and saxophonists to the QCASS community this October!

The Queensland Clarinet and Saxophone Society’s annual competition is back for 2026!

What better way to celebrate the lasting impact of the QCASS Competition than with a look back at one of our former competitors?

🌟 Competition Alumni: Dr Emma Di Marco

Just look at this little saxophonist! 💛 This photo shows Dr Emma Di Marco at her very first QCASS competition, when she was just 9 years old.

Emma went on to enter the saxophone sections year after year throughout her teens and continued competing during her years studying music at university.

“The QCASS competition was such an important part of my musical journey. Having something to work towards each year gave me motivation to practise, set goals and keep improving. The feedback from experienced adjudicators was invaluable — it helped me understand what I was doing well, what I could work on, and how to keep developing as a musician.”

Today, Emma is a professional musician and QCASS committee member. For Emma, the competition was more than simply a performance opportunity. It provided motivation, encouragement and expert feedback at important stages of her musical development — helping her build the skills and confidence that would eventually lead to a career as a professional musician.

Now, she’s helping provide those same opportunities to the next generation of clarinettists and saxophonists. 🎶

Who knows? Perhaps one of the young musicians competing with us this October will look back on their first QCASS competition one day with the same fondness.

The 2026 QCASS Competition is just around the corner, and we’re inviting clarinet and saxophone players of all ages and abilities to take part.

Whether you’re a student looking for your next musical challenge, a teacher encouraging your students to perform, or a parent looking for a great opportunity for your young musician, the QCASS Competition is a chance to step onto the stage, share your music and be part of our wonderful clarinet and saxophone community.

Clarinet & Saxophone students and teachers - one week to go until Selmer Paris hosts another masterclass and instrument trial here in Brisbane. A FREE event for students and teachers to have a play in a massed saxophone ensemble, perform in a masterclass, learn about the Selmer Paris range of saxophones, clarinets, and accessories as well as plenty of time to try the instruments and accessories for yourself.
