Meet Rachelle Livermore from UDIA Qld , a fierce trekker taking on Youngcare's 2027 Munga-Thirri Simpson Desert Challenge.

An avid hiker, Rachelle said the trek is a brilliant opportunity to do something she loves while raising funds for young people with complex and permanent physical disability.

When asked why she's taking on the trek, she said: "The comraderie you get, the people you meet and the stories you can tell along the way."

Now she's looking for others to join her or donate to her trekker page to show their support.

❤Johnny and Charlie: Part Two

After a life-changing surfing accident left Johnny paralysed from the waist down, one of the greatest challenges wasn't just recovery, it was losing his independence.

That's when Youngcare stepped in.

Through a Youngcare grant, Johnny was able to modify a vehicle so he could get back behind the wheel and regain his independence.

“I didn't really realise how much being so reliant on someone else to drive me was affecting my mind state,” Johnny said.

“Now, I can go to my appointments by myself, do the shopping, visit friends and go visit the surf.”

Today, Johnny and Charlie continue to face challenges together, focusing on what they can control and celebrating every step forward together.

❤️Johnny and Charlie: Part One

Just weeks before they were due to return home to New Zealand to celebrate their engagement, Johnny and Charlie's lives changed forever.

A surfing accident left Johnny with a spinal cord injury and paralysed from the waist down.

After six months in hospital, they faced a new challenge: the three-storey townhouse they called home was no longer accessible. They had to urgently find a new place to live.

Johnny had been out of New Zealand too long to be eligible for the country’s funding support and not in Australia long enough to apply for NDIS.

That's when Youngcare stepped in. 🫶

Through a Moving Home Grant, Youngcare helped cover the bond for a new accessible apartment and purchase a new fridge that fit the dimensions of their new kitchen.🏠

"When we got the yes from Youngcare, it almost didn't feel real. I'd got so used to the word 'no'," Charlie said.

For Johnny and Charlie, it wasn't just financial support. It was hope at a time they needed it most.
