For most adults, making your own lunch is second nature.

For Kaylem, it represented something much bigger: independence.

Living with spina bifida, Kaylem was determined not to miss out on the everyday milestones of adulthood. Thanks to a Youngcare At Home Care Grant, he now has an accessible kitchen where he can prepare his own meals and enjoy the freedom of doing it himself.

Because independence isn’t found in the big moments — it’s built in the everyday ones. ❤️

One moment changed Brooke’s life forever.

At just 25 years old, a spinal tumour left Brooke with a spinal cord injury, taking away much of the independence she had always known.

But with the right support, everything changed.

A Youngcare Grant helped Brooke regain her freedom, reconnect with her family property, and get back to doing what she loves most.

Today, there are more young Australians like Brooke who need support to live with choice, independence and dignity.

This week, Institute CEO Kirsty Chessher-Brown and the team had the privilege of touring Youngcare’s newly opened development in Newmarket.

This beautiful, Hampton-style home is built to the highest physical support standards and will soon provide a welcoming, accessible sanctuary for three tenants just minutes from the Brisbane CBD.

Witnessing this incredible property firsthand was a powerful reminder of why our industry’s support matters. It gave our team the opportunity to see the tangible, life-changing impact of carefully considered, inclusive design, and to witness exactly what we are supporting, in our own small way, through our ongoing partnership.
