ACHPER QLD was proud to join our fellow members of the QLD Active Travel Collaboration for a valuable meeting on Sep 15th with Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Hon. Tim Mander. 🚶‍♂️🚲✨

Representing ACHPER QLD, Caroline Brooks joined regional leaders to present key strategies aimed at embedding active transport into Queensland's lifestyle and legacy.

With major developments ahead for the 2032 Games, we are advocating to strengthen local sports clubs and support the State to prioritise active travel - ultimately, improving community wellbeing moving forward.

Read more on what was addressed below:

1. Permanent and Accessible Active Transport Infrastructure:
Advocating for high-quality, shade-covered, and accessible walkways and cycleways integrated with public transport, health precincts, and schools. Safe active connections around key venues (like Victoria Park) will benefit tens of thousands of daily commuters and visitors.

2. Getting in Shape for the Games:
Supporting active travel through community skills coaching to build confidence for school and work commuters, alongside statewide fun runs and walks to normalise everyday movement.

3. Measuring Our Progress:
Recommending clear targets and survey tracking to monitor active travel adoption across Queensland leading up to, during, and beyond 2032.

A huge thank you to the Minister for his time and to our partners in the QLD Active Travel Collaboration for driving this critical work forward!

What active travel connections or programs would you love to see near your local school or community? Let us know in the comments below! 👇

What a day in Bundaberg! 🎉☀️

A massive thank you to our incredible Wide Bay HPE community and presenters for bringing such great energy last Thursday. We really can't pick a highlight from the day, between some great new movement sessions, resource sharing, an epic teachers vs students contest and afternoon kick-ons - the day could not have gone better!

Our team are pumped to see such a supportive response to this touring PD series from our regional communities and we are looking forward to the next one!!

In the meantime, registrations are now open for our upcoming hybrid Masterclass Series on Senior Health, Senior Physical Ed and Sport & Rec - more info on our website🔗
