🌏❤️Today is International Children's Day ❤️🌏

The circumstances a child is born into should never determine whether they eat, receive medical care, attend school, or survive.

At Voice, we see children facing challenges that no child should have to face—hunger, illness, disability, homelessness, family crisis, barriers to education, and a lack of access to basic healthcare.

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy, safe, educated, and loved.

Through the generosity of our supporters, Voice helps vulnerable children across Cambodia access:

📚 Education
🏥 Healthcare
🍚 Food
🏠 Safe shelter
🛡️ Protection and support
💼 Stronger futures for their families

Donate here to help: www.voice.org.au/donate

On this International Children's Day, we thank everyone who helps us stand alongside children and families in crisis.

Together, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity not only to survive, but to thrive.

❤️ First, we Listen.

I love this photo taken by one of our case workers.
Sometimes our clients show such joy in seeing us and in receiving our help that it is hard to describe.

Everybody deserves access to the food, shelter, healthcare, safety, education, and sustainable livelihoods that Voice provides to people in crisis.

But this moment.... this is why we do our work. To bring hope.

Happy Friday. Have a great weekend. From our Voice Team. 🩵🩷🩶🤍

Please watch this important video from our Thalassaemia Day event. I wish for this video to be watched by every Cambodian.

Thalassaemia is a genetic blood disorder affecting regions historically affected by malaria. Cambodia has the highest rates of thalassaemia in the world. Cambodians with thalassaemia major experience severe sickness and require life-long blood transfusions and iron chelation medication. Unfortunately, many Cambodians are in crisis due to thalassaemia - and require assistance from Voice to access their life-saving treatment. More action needs to be taken to prevent thalassaemia and assist people affected by thalassaemia.

Thankyou to Kiripost for your dedication to journalism and your invaluable contribution to helping Cambodians and the world to be informed the devastating magnitude of thalassaemia in Cambodia and how we can change this.

Today, I want to recognise and thank our incredible Voice case workers, who work tirelessly every day to support people in crisis across Cambodia.

While we have shared many recent posts about our thalassaemia work, our team also continues to quietly and effectively provide crisis assistance to hundreds of vulnerable people from all walks of life — every single day.

VOICE helps people in crisis access food, shelter, healthcare, safety, education, and sustainable livelihoods. Each year, our staff assist more than 500 people through emergency support, access to essential services, and pathways toward greater independence.

I’ve attached some photos capturing the work our team does daily — listening to people, advocating for them, supporting them through crisis, and helping them rebuild their lives.

First, we listen.

Please like or comment on this post to help show our staff that their hard work, compassion, and dedication are seen and deeply appreciated. I promise my staff will see and appreciate your comments.

The Thalassaemia Community in Cambodia propose 9 key actions to improve thalassaemia management in Cambodia:

1. Establish a national registry to monitor thalassaemia in Cambodia
2. Expand decentralised diagnosis and treatment services
3. Increase access to safe and reliable blood transfusions
4. Subsidise and ensure provision of essential medictaions (especially iron chelation)
5. Strengthen doctor training on thalassaemia
6. Introduce prevention programs (including pre-marital and newborn screening)
7. Provide genetic counselling and psychosocial support
8. Ensure treatment management across the lifespan
9. Ensure financial protection across the lifespan.

These recommendations were derived from Kristy's research findings and were supported by the Cambodian Thalassaemia Association and the broader thalassaemia community in Cambodia through a vote on Thalassaemia Day, 8th May, 2026.
