🎉 Grant Announcement!

We're pleased to announce that the Bowen Woodies has received a QCoal Foundation Community Spirit Grant for their project to install a new external dust extraction system.

This funding will help improve air quality in the workshop by collecting dust and wood shavings through a modern ducted system, creating a cleaner and safer environment for members and visitors 🌟

We're excited to see how this project will support the Bowen Woodies by improving health and wellbeing, reducing workshop clean-up, and helping ensure the space remains welcoming and professional for the community.

𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦! 🌿🎨

A huge thank you to the QCoal Foundation for supporting our next public art project through its 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘚𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵.

This funding has provided the essential seed money to begin developing 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗬 𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘, the next chapter of our Bee Corner public art initiative, planned for the entrance to Mackay’s 7th Laneway.

The grant has enabled us to commission the initial concept design and contribute towards the artist’s deposit, bringing us one step closer to transforming another underutilised C*D space.

We're excited to work with Cornelissen Art whose distinctive approach to pattern, colour, and composition will help bring this project to life.

𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡'𝑠 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑡𝑙𝑒 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑝𝑠𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛!

While the mural featured in this video is a separate work, it offers a glimpse into Carley's creative process — the layering of shapes, repetition of patterns and playful use of colour that are central to her artistic style.

For 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, these techniques will help weave together Mackay's native flora, fauna and biodiversity with contemporary botanical and Art Deco-inspired design.

The result? A celebration of 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 — the intricate connections between the plants, pollinators and wildlife that make our region unique.

This mural will build on our existing 𝗕𝗲𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗳𝘂𝗹 artwork, continuing the transformation of Bee Corner into a connected public art precinct and another destination along Mackay's growing Art Trail.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗤𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀.

🌮💚 Today is World Mental Health Day, and that's why we're so excited to announce our support of Collinsville State High School's "Tac'O'Bout It" project!

Led by Year 11 and 12 Hospitality students, this fantastic initiative will bring students, staff and the wider community together to raise awareness of mental health, encourage meaningful conversations and connect people with local support services.

Because at the end of the day, "it's okay to fall apart sometimes. Tacos do, and we still love them!" 😊

We're excited to see how this event will help reduce stigma and remind people that support is always available. Congratulations Collinsville State High School, we're proud to support your initiative to build community, build wellbeing and, of course - build tacos! 🌮

Congratulations to ARC Disability for receiving a QCoal Foundation Community Spirit Grant! 💙

QCoal Foundation is pleased to support the project, "The Do's and Don'ts of Holidays - Filming on Location", which will empower people with disability to further develop their acting, filmmaking and technical skills.

Through this project, participants will gain hands-on experience in filming on location across Cairns, attend the Understory Film Festival, and work alongside support staff to create a polished short comedy film that showcases their talent, humour and creativity.

We know that resilient regional communities are those where everyone has opportunities to participate, contribute and be seen. We're proud to support ARC Disability as they help create a community where everyone can pursue their passions and share their unique talents!

We can't wait to see "The Do's and Don'ts of Holidays" on the big screen! 🎬✨
