We're officially up and running in Cairns! 🎉

Night one at the new Sporting Wheelies Cairns Hub. First pushes, rolls, throws and a lot of laughing.

Thanks to everyone who came along to Wheelchair Fundamentals and Boccia last night, and to PCYC Cairns for having us. Cairns already has a great disability sport community and we're stoked to be part of it.

Monday nights run all term, 5 to 7pm, with more sessions through the week at PCYC Cairns, Manunda and the Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre, Cairns North.

Cairns, we’re nearly there 🎉

Our Cairns Hub kicks off Monday 12 October, and we’d love to see you there. All abilities, no experience needed. Just come along and give it a go.

📍 Monday 12 Oct: Wheelchair Fundamentals and Boccia, 5pm to 7pm at PCYC Cairns, Manunda
📍 Tuesday 13 Oct: Para Powerlifting, 4.30pm to 6.30pm at Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre, Cairns North
📍 Friday 16 Oct: Adaptive Aquatics, 4pm to 6pm, and Adaptive Table Tennis, 4.30pm to 6.30pm, both at Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre

Your first two sessions are free, so you can try it out before you commit to anything. After that, $80 covers the whole term for Fundamentals, Boccia, Powerlifting and Table Tennis. That’s one payment, not $80 each. Adaptive Aquatics is $160 per term.

We’re NDIS registered, so fees may be claimable. Check with your plan manager first.

"True inclusion starts with understanding." 💚

Our COO Dane Cross sat down with EducationHQ to chat about Pathways to Inclusion, our program that brings our Game Changers into Queensland schools.

Game Changers are people with lived experience of disability. They share their stories, talk about inclusive language and get students playing adaptive sport like wheelchair basketball. Students get stuck in, ask questions and leave seeing things a bit differently.

Dane says the hardest part is getting on schools' radar. Once we're in, schools keep getting us back, year after year.

Just a quick reminder that our Sporting Wheelies Clubhouse in Milton will be closed on Monday 5 October for the King's Birthday public holiday.

This includes gym access, allied health appointments, and all regular Monday sports programs. We hope you enjoy a well-earned day off and we’ll see you back in action on Tuesday!

What a busy September for our schools team!

Last month our school’s team were in the Rockhampton region delivering visits to a total of 8 schools! Our Game Changers Bear and Elvira made the trip from Townsville to deliver the visits. This allows the students to experience what it is like in a wheelchair and also get to play some wheelchair basketball!

Thank you to Followmont Transport for helping us move the equipment to the region to deliver these visits.
