Queensland Regional Art Awards make dreams come true!

Last year's winner, Alison McDonald, fulfilled a life-long ambition of travelling to America to work with her hero David Huang:

"This award was a huge change in my life. I did something I wanted to do for a long time - a workshop series in Phoenix, USA with Metalsmith artist David Huang."

With a prize pool of $326,800, including cash prizes, solo exhibitions, residencies and professional development opportunities, the Queensland Regional Art Award (QRAA) is Australia's largest regional art awards program.

We encourage all regional, rural and remote Queensland artists to take up this opportunity to be seen, supported and celebrated for their work. There is no theme this year, so all eligible work is welcome.

Entries close 3pm 18 September 2026.

Artists Exchange brought together emerging and early career Queensland artists from Cunnamulla to Mission Beach.

Across four online sessions, participants shared their current work, exchanged ideas and provided constructive feedback in a supportive environment designed to strengthen creative practice.

Led by Dr Holly Arden and Alison McDonald (Winner, Queensland Regional Art Awards 2025), the program provided artists with the opportunity to connect with peers, reflect on their practice and gain new perspectives. This growth was reflected in the feedback received from participating artists:

"When I joined this activity, I felt overwhelmed. It helped me to hear how other artists were feeling the same way I did. I saw everyone else as slickly professional and myself as messy and muddled. I really pulled myself together during the weeks we were meeting up, and I feel I have a whole new, more confident approach."

Thank you to everyone who took part in Artists Exchange and contributed to such a generous and inspiring creative space.

Flying Arts is delighted to host the launch of The Long Reach of Service: From Longreach to Legacy, the memoir of David Muir AM, at the Queensland Regional Art Awards exhibition at the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach.

Officially launched by Mayor Tony Rayner, the event will celebrate David’s remarkable life of service, from growing up in outback Queensland to his significant contribution to organisations including Crime Stoppers Queensland and Foodbank Queensland.

Flying Arts CEO Toni Palmer will MC the launch, joined by Tony Cullen, CEO of Qantas Founders Museum, and Everald Compton AO.

The launch will take place surrounded by the outstanding work of regional Queensland artists featured in the Queensland Regional Art Awards touring exhibition — a fitting setting in which to celebrate a life shaped by regional Queensland, leadership and service.

'Natured & Nurtured' officially opened at Land Street Gallery last Friday night.

Kathryn Neilsen's solo exhibition is presented as part of her prize for winning the Young Artist Award at the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA).

Thank you to ADFAS Brisbane Inc for supporting and to Land Street Gallery for hosting.

Congratulations again to Kathryn on this beautiful body of work, exploring the connections between body, nature and landscape.

Reflecting on the award, Kathryn said:
"Photography has a special place in my heart and it’s amazing to share my work on this scale."

The exhibition is showing at Land Street Gallery until 15 August.

Join leading Queensland gallerists Michael Eather (Fireworks Gallery) and Jack Fitzwalter (Land Street Gallery) for an engaging conversation about Queensland’s arts landscape. Drawing on their experience as both artists and gallery directors, Michael and Jack bring a broad perspective on what it takes to build a sustainable creative practice, develop strong gallery relationships and create opportunities for your work.

Who's Hosting: You! One lucky participant will be selected to host this event and interview Michael and Jack (application link below).

Michael Eather is the Director of FireWorks Gallery, a commercial enterprise established in 1993. Born and educated in Tasmania, Michael lived and travelled in the Northern Territory before settling in Brisbane. Since 1985, he has continued to work as a multidisciplinary artist, gallerist, project curator and consultant, with extensive experience across contemporary Indigenous art forms and issues.

Jack Fitzwalter is the Director of Land Street Gallery. He completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Queensland College of Art before working as a primary and tertiary arts educator. His practice involves haptic techniques, using masking matrices of colour to create uniform illusionary surfaces. Land Street Gallery welcomes artists presenting current bodies of work, experimental exhibitions and community-led exhibitions.

Wonderful to welcome Ron McBurnie to Flying Arts this week! It was one of those 'exceptional moments'.

Sneak peek: Ron is one of the Queensland artists featured in our exciting new For Schools – Educational Program, bringing the experience and creative practice of professional artists directly into classrooms.

The team loved catching up with Ron at the Flying Arts gallery as we prepare to launch For Schools across Queensland.

Through curriculum-aligned resources and practical activities, For Schools is designed to inspire creativity, build teachers’ confidence and provide students access to high-quality visual arts learning — wherever they live.

Thanks Ron for being part of this next chapter for Flying Arts. We can’t wait for to share what we’ve been creating!

As part of the prize for winning the First Nations Artist Award at the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA), Charmaine Davis and Flying Arts present Jugun – Country, a solo exhibition at Flying Arts.

Charmaine Davis is a proud Goori woman descending from a matriarchal line of the Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung Nations, and has called Ipswich home for more than 30 years.

Charmaine is deeply inspired by the landscapes and waterways of her Country. Her paintings reflect a spiritual connection to Country and are grounded in ancestral ties, family, identity, and community. Through her work, Charmaine shares not only her own story, but also the stories of her lineage and her people. Charmaine invites viewers to reflect on their own relationship with the land. Her hope is to encourage a greater sense of respect, sensitivity, and connection to the places that sustain us all.
