Announcement: A milestone for Flying Arts

For Schools is officially launched.

Queensland's Minister for Education and the Arts, the Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP, launched For Schools at 1 William Street Brisbane, alongside Flying Arts Chair Lorraine Dinsey, Deputy Chair Jan Manton, Board Director Lynn Rainbow-Reid AM and CEO Toni Palmer.

For Schools is set to transform education in primary schools throughout Queensland and Australia - ensuring that geography never determines a child's access to extraordinary learning experiences.

Developed by Flying Arts, this innovative, curriculum-aligned Visual Arts program brings professional Queensland artists directly into classrooms through beautifully filmed, 'press play' lessons, inspiring both students and teachers to discover the joy of creativity. Flying Arts founder Mervyn Moriarty OAM has been honoured through a new 3D animation that guides children and teachers through the program.

“For Schools takes Flying Arts’ program delivery into a new era, using digital technology to connect primary school students and teachers with talented Queensland artists, extraordinary landscapes and diverse practices,” Minister Langbroek said.

The Ivory Street Window features new works from the Flying Arts Member community.

For October 2026, we welcome Renata Buziak, with Weathered Continuum I, Weathered Continuum III, Buttercup (Wildflowers), and Sundown (Wildflowers) now on display at Flying Arts. Congratulations, Renata.

In both forms, plants and photographic materials are fused over time, allowing natural processes to transform the image. Together, the works evoke cycles of decay, renewal and belonging, connecting the wildflowers of the Granite Belt with the creative life of the Piano Mill.

The Ivory Street Window provides an opportunity for Members to share their creative practice and celebrates the diverse range of artists within the Flying Arts community.

This morning, Flying Arts hosted the opening of 'Tread Lightly, Listen Deeply', Rosie Lloyd-Giblett's solo exhibition at our gallery in Fortitude Valley.

This exhibition is part of Rosie's prize for winning the Annie Tan Watercolour Award at the 2025 Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA).

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Rosie's exhibition. Thank you to our Cultural Patron Gina Fairfax AC and Eliza Tee from Arts Queensland for attending.

'Tread Lightly, Listen Deeply' is collection of artwork from spending time within Queensland and Northern New South Wales landscapes. The installation seeks to connect the viewer with an experiential subtropical bushland setting. Incorporating the colours of the local sacred kingfisher in flight, splashes of flowering fire wheel blooms and the majestic shedding melaleuca have become embedded within the surfaces. The expressive paintings and lyrical drawings curated with a ceiling suspended lightweight assemblage connect to the symbiotic relationships between the region’s birds and local flora. Listen closely and you may hear the honey eater and fairy wren’s chorus.

Calling all Flying Arts Members: submit your artwork for POST IT! — an end-of-year exhibition celebrating Queensland artists.

The Flying Arts Gallery will showcase a selection of 55 artworks by Members from across the state to mark 55 years of Flying Arts.

POST IT! responds to our Members’ desire to buy and sell more art. Remoteness, freight costs and limited display space can make it difficult to discover new artists and connect with buyers. By presenting small works online and in our Gallery, we are creating an accessible opportunity to buy and sell art across Queensland.

Led by Exhibitions and Programs Manager Alex Grady, the team will curate 55 artworks for presentation in the Gallery and sale online, with delivery arranged before the new year.

Artwork must fit within either a medium Australia Post prepaid box (24 × 19 × 12 cm) or A4 envelope. Artwork can be in any medium. Multiple entries per artist are welcome.

The Mervyn Moriarty Landscape Touring Exhibition has landed in Winton, with a fantastic opening on Saturday at the Waltzing Matilda Centre.

Thank you to Karen Stephens and the team at the Waltzing Matilda Centre for their support in bringing the exhibition to town.

Thank you also to the artists, volunteers and community members who attended the opening and celebrated the depth of talent across regional Queensland.

It was great to connect with the community during the drop-in creative chats and the interactive exhibition tour for young visitors, hosted by Flying Arts.

Queensland Regional Art Awards Touring is made possible by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.

It was wonderful to be in Townsville last night for the opening of the Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) Touring Exhibition at The Drill Hall Studio.

We were delighted to partner with North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA). Thank you Fabienne Cooke.

It was great to celebrate regional Queensland's creative talent, including Townsville's own Alison McDonald, Overall Winner, and Danish Quapoor Art, Textile Art Award finalist.

Thank you to Kate O'Hara from Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts.

Thank you to the team at The Drill Hall Studio for hosting the exhibition.

Entries for the 2026 Queensland Regional Art Awards close tomorrow, Friday 18 September 2026, 3:00pm. Before you submit, here's a quick checklist to make sure you're ready:

✅ Artist statement (150 words or less)
✅ High-resolution image of your work
✅ Artwork details ready: title, medium and dimensions
✅ Terms and conditions reviewed and ready to confirm

Give yourself enough time to complete your entry. The form has several sections, so it can take longer than you'd expect.

Free professional development resources are available to help with your artist statement, CV and bio, and photographing your work to the standard judges expect.
