Queensland Trust for Nature

Queensland Trust for Nature We own land in Daintree rainforest, an island in southern GBR, and a cattle property in SEQ. We protect, restore, and connect people to nature.

Biodiversity is our Business.🌿We protect and restore nature, and connect people, on land we look after and in partnership with landholders throughout Queensland. At Queensland Trust for Nature (QTFN), biodiversity is our business. QTFN is an independent non-for-profit trust and charity. We protect nature through our Revolving Fund. Here’s how it works: we acquire land and protect it (with a legall

y binding conservation agreement), then resell it to increase the privately owned protected area in Queensland. We then reinvest the funds from the sale in strategic land acquisition and biodiversity projects. We also manage land: a lot in the Daintree rainforest, an island in the southern Great Barrier Reef, and a cattle property in South East Queensland. We restore habitat and partner with private landholders, including for koalas in South East Queensland. We capitalize on our long-term holdings and use environmental markets, education and research to demonstrate the importance and value of biodiversity and productive landscapes. Since its implementation in 2004, QTFN’s Revolving Fund has successfully protected more than 111,800 hectares. QTFN focuses on ecologically significant spaces, species, and wildlife corridors across Queensland for maximum impact. These gliders at our Aroona property have cuddled up into a nest box this year, their home while the young eucalypts we've planted nearby grow tall enough to provide the real thing: natural hollows.
This EOFY, be part of giving wildlife somewhere to call home.
It can take over 80 years for a eucalypt to develop a hollow. We planted the trees and we can't speed up time, but together we can bridge the gap.
A $50 donation funds ongoing monitoring. A $300 donation builds and installs one nest box.
Every home we can provide right now matters.

Habitat restoration with landholders along Purga Creek making a difference for koala habitat.

See the restoration projects that we worked with four private landholders on along Purga Creek and their outcomes for local koala populations. Spend three minutes with Dave unpacking the habitat restoration work.

The KHRPP is funded by the Queensland Government and implemented by QTFN.

500 to go! Will you be our 10,000th container?

When you’re recycling your 10c containers at Containers for Change, you can choose to donate your refund to QTFN as your nominated charity.

You can either quote scheme ID C10903835 or scan the below barcode at a reverse vending machine. You can also set ‘donate’ to QTFN’s details as your member number’s preferred payment method online.

You can donate at Containers for Change depots, bag drops, reverse vending machines, pop ups, and there’s even home collection offered now.

We buy habitat boxes that act as artificial hollows for wildlife to nest in and for shelter. The goal is for these boxes to supplement natural hollows until there’s enough natural hollows developed over time to house all the wildlife.

Continue donating to us through Containers for Change, and we can cultivate a future together where hollow-dependent species have a home.

This World Sea Turtle Day, get to know our regulars at Avoid Island: Flatback turtles🐢🏝️

🐢The flatback turtle is named after its flat shell (carapace). These are the only sea turtles to nest exclusively on Australian shores.

🏝️Avoid Island Nature Refuge in the Southern Great Barrier Reef is a key nesting site for the east Australian population of Flatback Turtles. Avoid Island is looked after by us at QTFN, with Koinmerburra Aboriginal Corporation.

🌊Avoid Island is a "reference site" for this population; it is one of their only remaining nesting areas not detrimentally impacted by human activities or feral animals.

Beautiful words from Brooke, Environmental Defenders Office - EDO, talking about Rod Welford's legacy.

"Rod was well known to Queenslanders. When serving as Queensland’s Minister for Environment and Heritage, he introduced landmark reforms to protect biodiversity, reduce land clearing, expand national parks by over 400,000 hectares, and laid the foundation for modern environmental protection in the state.

His advocacy was particularly influential, he championed environmental protection in public policy, promoted sustainability as a core societal value, and used his voice to influence both government and community attitudes toward conservation.

We’re thrilled his very many contributions to the environment have been recognised in this way, and deeply grateful to have been in the company of his wife Gayle and sister today, who accepted the award on his behalf."

Together with the Environmental Defenders Office, we nominated Rod Welford posthumously for the Queensland Environmental Philanthropy Award at today’s
Queensland Philanthropy Awards. Queensland Gives

We are proud to recognise Rod's lifelong contributions to the environment, to see him honoured as Environmental Philanthropist of the Year, and to highlight his ongoing impact through the Welford Sustainable Future Fund and the difference it will make.

Dr Robin and Kathleen Stock, were also finalists for the Queensland Environmental Philanthropist of the Year award. This special couple quietly created a living legacy through the donation of a $10M+ property to Queensland Trust for Nature.
