COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: Mazal Tov to Jason Steinberg AM!
The Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies (QJBD) is absolutely thrilled and immensely proud to announce that our long-standing leader, Jason Steinberg, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in today’s King’s Birthday Honours list.

Jason has been recognised with this prestigious national honor for his significant service to the Jewish community in Queensland, and to historical commemoration.

For over four decades, Jason has quietly and fiercely dedicated himself to the safety, continuity and voice of Queensland Jewry. From navigating complex advocacy environments as our President, to representing our community on the national and international stage with the Maccabi and the ECAJ, Jason has consistently stepped up to shoulder the broad responsibilities of communal leadership.

His vision and relentless drive were also instrumental in conceptualising and founding the Queensland Holocaust Museum and Education Centre, ensuring that the memory of those that were murdered was preserved and that survivor testimonies became permanently and safely held to teach future generations.

Whether fighting antisemitism on the front lines, helping shape landmark anti-vilification legislation, or his sporting days with Maccabi, Jason’s communal involvement has been defined by an unwavering dedication to building a safer, more inclusive society.

On behalf of the entire Queensland Jewish community, we extend our heartiest congratulations to Jason and his family on this richly deserved honor. Thank you Jason for your tireless, selfless service to our community, our state and our nation.

Mazal Tov, Jason!

The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion is listening.

In recent remarks, Commissioner The Hon. Virginia Bell AC SC highlighted reports of a dramatic increase in online hate directed at members of the Jewish community, including instances serious enough to be referred to law enforcement.

Importantly, the Commission has made clear that understanding the lived experience of antisemitism is central to its work. Every submission helps build a more complete picture of the challenges facing Jewish Australians and ensures these experiences form part of the official record.

If you have experienced, witnessed or been affected by antisemitism, your story matters.

Some experiences are difficult to put into words. Others may seem too small to matter. But every story helps the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion understand the real impact antisemitism is having on individuals, families and communities across Australia.

Your submission does not need to be lengthy or formal. It can be about a single incident, a change in how you live your life, or the impact antisemitism has had on those around you.

The examples in this guide are intended to help you reflect on experiences that may be relevant to your submission.

Submissions close on 14 June 2026. For information, guidance and support, visit shareyourstory.org.au.
