🌿 COP17 Mongolia starts next week on 19 October, and so does Citizen COP!

We are creating a nationally connected, locally grounded civic space alongside the international COPs — bringing climate and biodiversity conversations into communities across Australia.

🌏 Check out our Brisbane & Gold Coast agenda with events organised by Outdoor Office Days Australia , Griffith University Sustainability , La Fresque de la Biodiversité , Climate Fresk Australia , Tzu Ching Brisbane - 慈青在布村 , Tzu Chi Early Learning Brisbane , Jing Si Books & Cafe Brisbane , UNAA Young Professionals - QLD and many more!

From conversations and screenings to workshops, community gatherings, cultural events and local action, Citizen COP is a growing Green Zone-style civic space — creating opportunities for people to learn, discuss, question, connect and participate.

Because civic participation doesn’t need to be centralised to be connected.

There is a more “silent COP” happening alongside the climate one.

While climate COPs often take the spotlight, the biodiversity COP (COP17 Armenia) receives far less attention — yet it is just as critical.

Because biodiversity is not a side issue.

It is the foundation of life as we know it.

Our food systems. Our water. Our soils. Our resilience to climate change itself.

Without functioning ecosystems, climate targets alone are not enough.

Yet biodiversity loss is accelerating, often out of public view and under-represented in global conversations.

That is what makes COP17 so important — and so urgent.

It is where countries negotiate how we protect and restore nature at a global scale, at a time when ecosystems are under unprecedented pressure.

🌏 But these conversations cannot remain distant or invisible.

That’s why #**CitizenCOP** exists — to bring biodiversity and climate discussions back into public spaces, where people can learn, connect, and engage directly with the science and the systems behind what is happening.

Biodiversity won’t be restored by policy, nor by technology.

𝑰𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 — 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒈𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒏, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒚, 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆.

We are excited that our Nature Oasis platform is almost ready! It turns everyday spaces into living biodiversity action — and connects those actions into a shared fabric of restoration across Australia. Not symbolic engagement, but distributed stewardship.

One of our ambassadors (Dylan Nguyen) recently shared with us:

“𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢 — 𝘢 ‘𝘱𝘰𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵’: 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘢𝘱 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘢 𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵.𝘐 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 247 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘶𝘣𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥.”

This is the shift Nature Oasis is built for.

Not perfect systems. Not waiting for permission.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭, 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥, 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐲.

Nature Oasis helps make them visible, connected, and collectively powerful.Because science can measure decline, and policy can set direction — but only people can bring nature back.

One pot. One tree. One street at a time. Stay tuned for more soon!

The global negotiations that take place at COP17 and COP31 can feel distant, technical, and hard to connect with. Citizen COP Australia is here to close that gap.

Citizen COP creates a distributed national platform where citizens engage directly with science and evidence, communities explore trade-offs and practical solutions, local action connects to national and global challenges, and a collective citizen voice for nature is strengthened across Australia.

75 organisations, schools and community groups across the country have stepped up to host 90+ forums, workshops, citizen science days and locally led action projects.

You don't need to be an climate or biodiversity expert. You just need to turn up.
