🌏 What if everyone could have a seat at the COP table?

Climate negotiations shape our collective future — but meaningful climate action cannot happen behind closed doors or only among those with official badges, flights, and access.

𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐎𝐏 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬.

Citizen COP is creating an open, inclusive space for Australians everywhere to engage with the global climate conversation — bringing together communities, scientists, young people, First Nations voices, educators, businesses, and changemakers to learn, connect, and take action.

Last year, young ocean advocate and change-maker shared a powerful message:

“𝑾𝒆’𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒏𝒆𝒈𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓.”

Her words are a reminder that climate decisions are not just political decisions — they shape the lives and futures of generations to come.

COP should not only belong to those in the negotiation rooms.

The climate conversation belongs to all of us.

Every year, world leaders, scientists, and communities gather for global environmental summits called COPs (Conferences of the Parties).

During these official gatherings, countries negotiate and review the international agreements shaping our response to climate change and biodiversity loss, including the Paris and Kyoto Agreements.

This year, there will be two COPs:

🌿 Biodiversity COP17 - Yerevan, Armenia (19–30 October)

🌏 Climate COP31 - Antalya, Türkiye (9–20 November) - led by Australia.

These negotiations matter enormously. But for most people, they can feel distant, technical, and hard to connect to. 𝐖𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐎𝐏 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.

That’s why we created 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐂𝐎𝐏 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚: 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝, 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐎𝐏 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲. Instead of a select few attending from afar, we’re opening up space for thousands of Australians to learn, engage, and take part - right where they are 🙌

What does a Citizen COP event look like?

There is no single format. Citizen COP is designed to reflect the diversity of Australian communities so events might include:

🌱 Climate, biodiversity or sustainability workshops (e.g. Climate Fresk, Biodiversity Collage, Circular Economy Collage — we can support facilitation)

🎤 Community conversations, panels or debates

🎬 Film screenings and discussions (we can support screening rights for selected films such as Nature, Floodland, Rising Up, The Plastic Country)

🎨 Art exhibitions, storytelling and creative activations

🚶 Nature walks, cultural walks or restoration activities

🎓 School and youth-led sessions

🍲 Shared meals exploring food systems and sustainability

❓ Climate and nature trivia nights

💻 Online discussions or webinars

👨‍👩‍👧 Parent and community conversations about the future we want for our children

Save Our Oceans – Film Night (Brisbane)

Join us on 16 September in Fortitude Valley / Brisbane for a special film night, Save Our Oceans — an inspiring evening of thought-provoking short documentaries by leading French and Australian artists.

For this evening, we’re proudly collaborating with Culture Plus, a not-for-profit Australian organisation. The evening is free and open to all.

Each film will be introduced through a short presentation highlighting the artist or organisation behind it. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with ocean experts exploring perspectives across science, art, conservation, and community action.
