Show and tell today saw some innovation and new skills on display. Michael is using a little known technique called ‘shousugi ban’ this involves wood burning, brushing with a metal brush and then multiple layers of oil. He has made two chopping boards using Tasmanian Oak. Amazing work!
Ken showed us a comfort bird he carved using hand tools and he turned a tiny goblet with captive ring - unbelievably great!
Jeannie is new to the club and showed us her progress on the scroll saw, working on a duck and deer. Impressive skills!

We have been watching with great interest as John P worked on his latest carved Dragon, made in camphor laurel. It is beautiful! Paul N showed us his multi laminated serving boards and described the timbers to the members. Great work! Ken R turned his segmented sections that he showed us last week into an egg and a cup showing the design developed from segmenting. How impressive!

We had a fantastic morning tea this week to celebrate our members who are 90yo+ and are still actively involved in our club - how awesome! The foursome are ( Left to Right) Darrel M, Howard L (a foundation member from 1992) Bob S and Michael S. We are all so incredibly grateful that you contribute to our club and work with our other members. We thank members for supplying the morning tea spread honouring our 90+ year olds.

Show and Tell today was a beauty.
Ernie showed us some stunning boxes. Two were made from sassafras and one mango box both with inserts of other timber.
Ken showed us his work using segmented pieces glued together and make something out of them. Ken was also working, with his mentor, on a new method for more efficient threading. He also made his own veneer with Purple Heart cause you can’t buy it.

At Show and Tell today John P presented his recently carved Wombat and spoke about the problems that he had getting an acceptable colour. Geertruda showed us the stunning Scottish thistle and Sean showed us the bench he has been building - almost finished. Barry S presented three lidded boxes and talked about the reasons to turn boxes with the grain and not across the grain.

Show and Tell today saw three highly talented people share their work and their knowledge. First up was Kerry who focussed on how important inspiration is to the work he does. He showed us a little bowl made from Sheoak with an embellished coral look. Then he showed us a unique bowl made from Brazilian Cedar from a tree he grew in his own backyard. He also showed us an unfinished jacaranda bowl which is going to be finished by carving a tropical scene on it - can’t wait to see it.
Next up was Michael who led us astray with a story of a reunion of old mates and a photo he took of them and framed - you got us! Nice frame!
Finally Maz got up and was promoting wood and the October sale which generated some interest from members.
