Earlier this month, the Neurological Alliance Australia (NAA) Neurological Summit was held at Parliament House, bringing together people with lived experience, clinicians, researchers, parliamentarians and sector leaders to discuss how neurological care and outcomes can be improved across Australia.

The Summit also marked the release of Australiaโ€™s first national neurological survey, capturing the experiences of 3,805 Australians.

The findings highlight significant gaps in care:

๐Ÿง  1 in 2 reported difficulty accessing neurological care
โŒ› Nearly 1 in 3 waited more than four years for a diagnosis
๐Ÿ’ฐ Almost half delayed or skipped care because of cost
๐Ÿ”„ Only 4 in 10 described their care as coordinated

For many people and families, these challenges mean navigating complex systems on their own.

The findings reinforce the need for earlier diagnosis, better access to specialist care, and stronger coordination across health, disability and support services.

August is Multicultural Queensland Month ๐Ÿ’™

This yearโ€™s theme, Bringing People Together, celebrates the diverse cultures, experiences and communities that help make Queensland such a vibrant place to call home.

At MS Queensland, we know people living with neurological conditions come from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. Everyone should feel welcome to access support, information and connection when they need it.

As Multicultural Queensland Month draws to a close, itโ€™s a timely reminder of the importance of continuing to build welcoming, accessible and connected communities for all Queenslanders.

Weโ€™re proud to recognise and celebrate the people, cultures and communities that contribute to our state every day.

Can telehealth physiotherapy be effective? ๐Ÿ’ป

While telehealth is different from an in-clinic appointment, it can still be an effective way for our Allied Health team to understand how symptoms are affecting your mobility and daily activities.

Through telehealth, our physiotherapists can provide tailored advice, guide safe exercise strategies and support you to work towards your goals from the comfort of your own home.

Wherever you are, neurological physiotherapy support may be closer than you think.

Our Employment Service Leader Abbey Griffiths, recently teamed up with Molly Dobbins from the Queensland Tourism Industry Council - QTIC to explore the employment pathways available within the local tourism industry.

From volunteering and work experience opportunities to meaningful employment, Abbey saw firsthand how tourism businesses are creating pathways for people to build skills, confidence and connections in their community.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us and shared their knowledge about the unique opportunities available on Magnetic Island. โœจ

Understanding foot drop ๐Ÿฆถ

Foot drop is a common symptom for some people living with MS and other neurological conditions. It can affect walking, balance and confidence, making everyday movement more challenging.

In this video, MS Queensland Senior Physiotherapist Stephen Ryder explains how a tailored physiotherapy assessment can help identify the factors contributing to foot drop, and how strengthening, stretching and mobility exercises may help support movement and function.
